a couple years ago i saw this video that had been created for a 3d cgi competition. they used video footage of some 3rd-world-lookin' streets and rendered some sort of mech into each scene.
it had long ears like the landmate on appleseed and was carrying an assault rifle.

Sounds like Robotech. Or maybe Battletoads. It's definitely one or the other, though.
