Having recently got tired of anime series such as, naruto, black cat, bleach etc (Shōnen anime). I've tried some Shōjo anime series and loved it. What romance anime series would you recommend? I've only watched: Kanon, Chobits and utawarerumono so far.
Clannad
ef - a tale of memories
Honey and Clover
Kamichu!
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou
Nodame Cantabile
Planetes
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
and anything by Shinkai Makoto
Makoto Shinkai's three films... in order...
"Voices of a Distant Star", "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" and finally "5 Centimeters Per Second".
I don't even want to be in a relationship but "5 Centimeters Per Second" literally makes you feel like there's something missing in your life. It's probably my favorite anime film right now.
As for anime shows though, I love "School Rumble". Its romantic plus its frickin hilarious. And Kare Kano...the manga rocks.
Watch those, okay? Then thank me. ^_^
Kimagure Orange Road does hold up quite well despite of its decade
How about "True Tears"
Ocean Waves did pretty well for a non Miyazaki and Takahata outing
Two good ones unmentioned are Otoboku and Strawberry Panic.
I found Kashimashi to be a bit boring and over the top.
Myself;Yourself, True Tears and H2O started nice, but in the end it really wasn't what I like in a romance anime.
Does anyone know if Itazura na Kiss and Special A are in the same vein as these other shows m.3.3.w is subbing?
>>7
Special A is kinda like Ouran High plus wrestling, kinda. And oh god, Itazura no Kiss. Christ that show sucks :(
They both have strong romance elements though, although S-A is more of a comedy than romance stuff.
I can't recommend Clannad enough. Oh man oh man I can't wait for that game to be translated.
Only naive persons would wait for a Key game to be done in English
The wiki is making good progress if you ask me.
If you are the lonely and easily depressed type don't watch "5 Centimeters Per Second." If not go for it because it will make you the lonely and easily depressed type, and misery loves company...
If you are murderous or easily prone to anger do watch School Days
>>12
Why would school days make me prone to anger? I've seen the first two episodes and it didn't seem much different from any other high-school romance anime series.
The Telepathy Girl Ran its new and sort of goes that way... well at least it contains a boy and a girl...
You may as well give a try to both Someday's Dreamers this season.
I saw the first episode of Telepathy Girl Ran. It was really good. Very beautiful art and seems like a great story.
Seraphim Call will give you a much needed dosage with love stories
wpWLpFcA, Well judging from your selection try Clannad, and if you want some comedic relief after watching all of Clannad and then the movie try Midori no Hibi, Final Approach, Rizelmine, and Kage Kara Mamorou. You also might like Sola and Air. All these are Shōnen like the ones you've watched (romance anime doesn't automatically mean Shōjo). If you really want a Shōjo Vampire Knight seems to be getting a lot of attention lately though i personally dont care for it too much.
wait let me correct one thing though some of those is actually seinen lol i kinda blur between the two
Diamond Daydreams sports a winter theme using three different arcs
>>14 i wish i'd never watched school days now...
currently watching S.A, it's pretty good.
Shuffle! is another good one, nice mix of tragic backstory, supernatural (although not so much that it detracts from the main purpose of the anime - romance) and school life. nice characters and visuals too.
Tokimeki Memorial might be worth a look too, it's a fairly nice, lighthearted anime.
>>19 i found Air to be a bit confusing, but the visuals are stunning.
oh and stay away from Green Green. from the short intro i read about it, there was plently of opportunites for multiple romance scenarios... but they just spent the whole series doing jokey ecchi scenes. waste o' bandwidth if u ask me
Shuffle is horrid even without expecting much out dating sim anime
>>23 what makes you say that? as in, what makes it such a bad anime in your opinion?
http://www.nihonreview.com/anime/shuffle/ should explain my points
accidentally double posted due to my stupid internet speed! sighs....
You are right maybe that should have said it is a harem soap opera
Sentimental Journey is much better among the other dating sim kind
Here is >>7
I am now up to date on Itazura na Kiss and I think it's really wonderful. Best anime I have seen m.3.3.w. do. I will start watching Special A later.
Clannad [Fourthed]
Da Capo is completely romance, especially the first season
EF: A Tale of Memories [seconded]
Are any of these considered seinin?
I'm looking for a relatively serious seinin anime that happens to have romantic elements to it. I'm especially not interested in young girls, high school, or slice of life shows (or anything with a primary focus on romance). For example, I absolutely loved Planetes (I still baww every time I watch the last 2 eps).
Sorry for not taking the time to research all these suggestions myself. orz
Victorian Romance Emma may be considered the seinen you have asked
>>37
Thank you. Based on the reviews and summaries I've read, this anime is primarily romance/drama. While this is not really what I'm looking for (I'd prefer a more serious primary theme) it still sounds like an excellent series! At the very least, it'll be interesting to watch an historical fiction anime that's not set in Japan.
Master Keaton includes anything but the romance elements you hoped
True Tears or Kanon (The newer version), maybe?
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Here's what've I've been into:
Onegai Sensei
Love Hina
Kare Kano
Nogizaka Haruka No Himistu
Zero No Tsukaima
Shakugan No Shana(somewhat)
Karin
Oh! My Goddess
Rosario+Vampire
and so on...
I can't wait for a following of Zero No Tsukaima, and I'm currently reading the Chibi Vampire(Karin) manga, and watching Shakugan No Shana and Rosario+Vampire
True Tears [Fourthed]
What are good romance/comedies? I just mentioned a few, but I I just finished Shakugan No Shana. I'm watching Rosario+Vampire, but I want something else to watch till a new R+V ep comes on.
Clannad [Fourthed]
True Tears [Fourthed]
Kanon [Thirded]
Honey and Clover
EF: A Tale of Memories
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Victorian Romance Emma
Air TV
Kimagure Orange Road
sola
Myself; Yourself
Strawberry Panic
Kashimashi
Diamond Daydreams
Sentimental Journey
Seraphim Call
Revolutionary Girl Utena
UGH
Revolutionary Girl Utena is none of the things the title makes you imagine. I thought of a political revolutionary movement... I was disappointed
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
Good site but they are missing some Series.
Candy Boy
Tokyo Mew Mew, Gravitation, Toradora, Cardcaptor Sakura, This Ugly yet Beautiful World (though that has seinen tendencies really)...
Mahoraba
Earl and Fairy could be considered a romance anime if you consider that the that the male lead is a sexual harrassment lawsuit waiting to happen and the female lead is a playing the role of ignorant/denying idiot/hero (usually reserved for male characters).
Rosario to Vampire and Rosario to Vampire capu2 if you really like excessive doting and fanservice.
Iriya no Sora
Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka? loli + incest romance.
Koi Kaze
>>56 She's not a real loli. She's a real tsundere though.
Kannazuki no Miko
All about romance, huh?
Firstly, I recommend Vampire Knight & Vampire Knight Guilty.
Don't miss out Itazura na Kiss as well.
Last but not least, Special A. It is well known too. =)
Lady Georgie
hmm.. Honey and Clover appeared just once in this thread. In my opinion it's one of the best anime of its genre.
The characters are really interessting and individual and the story always takes fascinating turns.
at the moment I'm watching 'bokura ga ita' which is a anime that really focalizes on the topic relationship, so the charaters really get close to each other, not like shounen romance stuff like love hina or something like that..
How does Amaenaideyo!! end? Do Chitose and Ikkou confess to each other and start a romantic relationship eventually?
>63
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
No really, you're pretty funny.
Shoujo Sect
Lamune
Wiki says its also a slice of life anime, is it?
Here's lots of anime for ya:
Clannad
Five Centimeters Per Second [movie]
Ai Yori Aoshi
Bokura ga Ita
Canvas 2
Da Capo series
Ef - A Tale of Memories [One of my favorites]
Ef - A Tale of Melodies [Sequel]
H2O Footprints in the Sand
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
I's Pure
Fruits Basket [Manga for better ending]
Ichigo 100% [Again manga for better ending]
Kare Kano
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
Kimikiss Pure Rouge
Love Hina series [Manga is better]
Lovely Complex
NANA
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu
Rizelmine
School Rumble [Lots of comedy, and some hint of romance]
Seto no Hanayome [Same as top, but a bit more romance]
Sola
Shuffle!
Suzuka
This Ugly Yet Beautiful World
True Tears
Tokimeki Memorial Only Love
Vampire Knight...though the anime lacks alot, the manga is great
Yotsunoha
Zero no Tsukaima series
Well I hope that satisfy you :3

For some reason Clannad is the most amazing anime I've ever seen. Maybe it's because string theory plays such a significant role throughout. Yeah, string theory. Theory of everything. Beautiful the way they portray Kotomi's scientist parents and Kotomi herself.
Well I'm loving Skip Beat right now ^_^
Its funny, dramatic, and just plain awesome!
Synopsis: (Not by me!)
Kyoko Mogami followed her true love Sho to Tokyo to support him while he made it big as an idol. But he's casting her out now that he's famous! Kyoko won't suffer in silence--she's going to get her sweet revenge by beating Sho in show biz!
It was a lot more than I expected and I fell in love with this anime pretty quick
Peach girl maybe?
I saw it once.A very intresting anime. you should try this light novel anime.
Loveless
Kimi no Todoke is airing now. It's pretty much the most pure, undistilled shoujo romance that has hit the airwaves in years. Feels good, man.
Warning: hazardous levels of Mamiko Noto.
Petit Cossette
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
Tears to Tiara
Hurt my feelings see romance in a topic and don't see those two animes fallowing them... especially the former.
Both very dramatic and romantic... I mean, Chuck Norris would cry watching those.
Flutter of Birds II
Onegai Sensei
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (or Hantsuki)
I'd say Skip Beat too but I preferred the manga
And if you watched Kanon you have to watch Clannad!
Itazura na Kiss: great romance that follows them into adulthood ;D
True Tears is also very good.
Singles
Pops
kanokon, and I don't believe i should have shame in saying it. :3
Ryokunohara Meikyuu
Clannad and Clannad Afterstory. Hatsukoi limited is also recommended.
Seraphim Call [Thirded]
