Lord help me, this show, I love it so. The characters are likeable, the Neuroi designs are cool, and the friendships have a bit of an Azumanga-ish feel to them. Still, I have to ask myself if the fanservice isn't going too far. Although the official same-day streaming sub is nice.
Is there even such thing as fan service going too far? Someone said that about Kodomo no Jikan but I watched that one and wasn't overwhelmed.
They are the loli Agent Aika and Najica Blitz Tactics view edition

The early episodes sucked, but it's really picking up. I keep dying of moé.
They have always sucked we are too distracted with panties to know
>>16
Best episode!
Sanya like this, Sanya like that...
They sure only hope to best that episode with even more pantyshots
Sanya's song. ;_;
Her song has nothing on those awesome soiled panties she has after
Little Sanya was so ridiculously cute that I almost cried.
She can only remain cute until someone draws even more loli fanart
In a world with no pants...
They could come up with such powerful weapons but not decent pants
Actually, it's quite true...for men-on-arms perhaps...
They realize when to keep priorities choosing weapons over clothes
Thursday is my favorite day of the week ( ´ ▽ ` )
BOST is so awesome. This is the first time I've been able to pay legally for something so explicitly lolicon and otaku-ish. I still hope we get R1 DVD's too, though.
>>24
Hartmann is cuter though.
>>30
Harmann was totally fucking breezy personified in episode 7. Perrine had some good moments too. And WTF was up with Barkhorn offering up her panties so casually?
Now that makes you wonder who are desperate enough to license this
>>31
Barkhorn sure is a perv isn't she. She hides it well though, but wait until we start seeing the doujins.
This series will manage the biggest loli yuri slash amount to date
ADV has not announced any license in a while so they may need this
>>36
They actually did announce one license at Otakon...an ecchi fanservice OVA called "Koharu Biyori," which believe me is far more explicit (even with some lolicon stuff) as Strike Witches. So, hey...maybe, maybe!
Koharu was so risque the OP video kept being taken down in YouTube
As of the date and time of this post...
The Strike Witches TV anime series is on its 141st main thread - representing nearly 141,000 posts - at 2ch's current anime board.
The Sekirei TV anime series is on its 16th main thread - representing less than 16,000 posts - at 2ch's current anime board.
The Sky Girls OVA and TV anime series is still on its 53rd main thread - representing less than 53,000 posts - on 2ch's 5 years or less old past anime board.
Japanese posters at 2ch observe that GONZO rarely produces 1-cour (usually 11-13 episodes) television animated series. One Japanese poster pointed out on a new anime thread at 2ch last week that the only recent 1-cour TV anime series by GONZO is Getsumento Heiki Miina.
Therefore, a number of Japanese fans think that Strike Witches will be (at least) a split 2-cour anime series, consisting of 24 (or more) episodes.
Because it consistently ranks on the Amazon Japan DVD Bestseller Rankings List with anime and live action titles whose prior volumes have sold more than 10,000 copies during their first week of release in Japan according to Oricon, Japanese fans on animation DVD sales threads at 2ch threads speculate that the limited edition of the Strike Witches TV Vol. 1 DVD will sell 10,000 or more copies during its first week of release in Japan, a great sales figure for an anime DVD.
It ranks much higher on the list than the limited edition of the Sekirei TV Vol. 1 DVD.
(The regular edition of Strike Witches TV Vol. 1 is even making the Amazon Japan DVD Bestseller Ranking List, placing higher than all editions of a number of other anime titles.)
If it does sell 10,000 or more copies during the first week of its release in Japan, the limited edition of Strike Witches TV Vol. 1 would become GONZO's best selling title on DVD in Japan so far, excluding the children's / family animated feature Brave Story - GONZO's single bestselling title on DVD by far in Japan.
We shall see.
In any case, the Strike Witches TV anime series appears it will outsell the Sky Girls TV anime series on DVD by a substantial margin per volume.
The scheduled release date of the Strike Witches Vol. 1 DVD in Japan is Friday, September 26, 2008.
>>38
heh. It is up there now, though. I think I'll buy it when it comes out...I hope it's sub-only.
This series may as well turn out to be what could help spare Gonzo
spare GONZO from what? Artistic integrity?
>>41
Being delisted from the stock market.
Gonzo may not be winning any awards but their output CAN be decent
Yeah, I don't get all the Gonzo hate...I've watched two shows by them (Blue Sub no. 6 and currently Strike Witches), and loved both of them. Plus they're the most internationally minded Japanese anime studio, what with their BOST ventures in the English-speaking world, and the Singapore stuff, and Witchblade/Afro Samurai.
>>44
Gonzo hate springs from initial great potential and sky high hopes being regularly dashed to pieces over the course of a series. Strike Witches is holding up well so far.
Did Gonzo also do Sky Girls? I have to wonder what is making SW so much more popular. The detailed historical references? The writing and characterization? Uniforms designed for pantyshots?
hm....I wish I got more infos on those..hm...
>Did Gonzo also do Sky Girls?
No, that was JC Staff.
>The detailed historical references? The writing and characterization? Uniforms designed for pantyshots?
All three. Also, the realistic airplane sounds+machinegun fire sounds appeal to one's boyish warlust (that fight scene at the beginning of ep 1 was SWEET).
Gate Keepers 21 does much better than watching the original series
There is no way they could compare other than having the same name
Gate Keepers and Gate Keepers 21 are the exact same thing, which is a combined parody and homage. It's just that the source material and perspective are different.
They're both pretty brilliant, and the way they contrast and complement each other is even better.
Gate Keepers 21 did the same story better without dumb anime humor
Strike Witches DVD Volume 1 is #4 on the amazon.co.jp sales for Anime DVDs...right under the Bleach Movie, Code Geass, and Macross. And that's just it's preorder, it's not being released until late September...hahahaha. I'm glad that such a blatantly otaku, lolicon anime can compete up there with the big, mainstream titles.
Final episode airing next week, orz
Now they have been bought out you can expect making another season
The pantsu theft episode is epic.

And the series still lives on with much discussion on a a varity of internet communities.

I feel like SW fandom will stay active for quite some time on the internet. It's a good show and there's so much potential for fanfic/fanworks, not to mention all the historical analysis and WWII nerdery.
No one expected our pantsu inquisition with the studio behind them
