I don't know about a lead character, but there is one in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I'd say she's among the small group of main characters.

Maybe Chaos;Head, but I wouldn't recomend it to anyone.
But if you still want to try it, I recomend the VN.

Also, Higashi no Eden has some, but not as main Lead.

Hayate no Gotoku claims one, but you don't get much hiki out of Nagi.

Go with Rozen Maiden.

check out Genshiken. It's not so much about hikikomoriness, but has some similar themes to NHK.

Genshiken and Chaos;Head

Genshiken's amazing, especially the first season. The atmosphere is fantastic and i think is a very good depiction of how hikikomori can exist within society. Plus, it's fantastic and relaxing to watch. CH is very good too, although a little rushed and underdeveloped. It has more of the worrisome aspect of hikikomori-dom. I keep meaning to play more of the VN.

I did really enjoy NHK
