Cobra the Animation - 01
Story: Into every life a little trouble must fall. For Cobra, that trouble fortunately seems to be accompanied by beautiful women with little on. Cobra's going for a leisurely drive on Venus during Christmas Eve, when a truck being chased by the Pirate Guild suddenly barrels toward him. A girl on the truck named Secret is the spitting image of Cobra's old flame, Dominique. She gives Cobra the Key of Shiva and asks him to take it to a professor Toporo on planet Galon...
Genre: Scifi in Spaaace...
Comments: (Jean-Paul) Belmondo in space, similar to Lupin III.
Light-hearted fun. The animation is sometimes good, sometimes sloppy. To be watched for the fun, not for the (goofy) science.
Chu-Bra 01
"The story revolves around Nayu Hayama, who embarrasses herself on the first day of middle school by accidental showing her "adult" panties. As two other students hear rumours of her having a 'sugar-daddy', they investigate. They soon learn that Nayu is an 'underwear monitor' who tests new underwear products, and has great insight on what underwear people should wear. Nayu hopes to help everyone get through the vital stage of their life by opening an underwear club."
Edumacational anime.
Zzz... I got incredibly bored halfway through.
Well-animated, probably fun for very young girls who want to learn about that kind of stuff.
Ladies versus Butlers 01
Hino Akiharu lost his parents when he was small and was adopted into his uncle's family. But he noticed his uncle is after the inheritance of his parents, so he decides to enter a boarding school, Hakureiryou high school. However his delinquent boy-like appearance frightens the girls, who make up the majority of the students.
Ecchi comedy.
It's the return of The girls With No Noses, aka Kanokon.
Lots of fog again...
I'm not sure this is going to be any good in the TV version, or even in the DVD version.
Sora no Woto - 01
The plot revolves around a girl named Kanata Sorami. When she was all alone at a young age as a result of war, she found inspiration in a trumpeter she met. She decides to join the army and become a trumpeter herself, hoping to learn well since she is quite bad at it. She is assigned to the town of Seize, where she is taken care of by Rio Kazumiya, her trumpet instructor, and the rest of the squadron.
Trumpeters in the army after the war.
Bucktoothed baby-faces? No guys? Retarded behavior? A typical K-On clone. I like the scenery, but I'm afraid this is going to be as shallow as all the other clones.
This is supposed to be in some French-speaking Switzerland, but the prices are shown in Yen, and she bows like a Japanese... An alternate reality? Or localization for the Japanese viewers? Either way, I get the feeling it's not for me.
>>4
Shouldn't it be romanized as So Ra No Wo To? Since the title in Japanese is ソ・ラ・ノ・ヲ・ト, with every syllable apart.
>>5
On Pixiv, I see that both tags, "ソ・ラ・ノ・ヲ・ト" and "ソラノヲト", are being used, tho the first one has more currently (46 vs 28).
Methinks this naming is confusing the Japanese too.
Should we romanize "Sounds of the Skies" as "So-Unds-Of-T-He-Ski-Es"? :)
>>6
I suppose you're right. It really is an odd title, though. Eh, Sora no Woto looks better.
And there seems to be confusion within the anime itself too, with those Japanese things (like using a seal to sign a marching order), the French stuff (the OP song and other marks), the reported location being in Switzerland, and the village which apparently is based upon a Spanish town (Cuenca).
Oh well.
Baka to Test to Shokanju 01
Akihisa Yoshii attends an academy where the students are split based on their tests. Class A has high scores students so their class has many luxury items, while Class F has none. But they can summon virtual battles to challenge the order.
Virtual School Battles.
Episode 1 was fun. But the studio is SHAFT, so it could go anywhere, from very good to very boring.
Anyway, so far so good.
>>9 Ah no, it's not SHAFT, it's SILVER LINK.
Last major production was "Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-"... Mh.
Dance in the Vampire Bund 01
The entire first episode was a pseudo-episode of a game show debating about whether vampires exist or not. Then vampires show up and wreak the show.
Vampires.
Okay, this one is actually from SHAFT. Good for a few minutes, then it turns ugly, then quite boring for most of the time, then it finally picks up some speed... but then it just ends. I don't know, this episode has probably no relation to the actual anime besides being an introduction.
Omamori Himari 01
The story revolves around a boy who has a unique bodyguard: a sword-bearing catgirl spirit to ward demons away.
Demon slayers and humans.
Cute, but I seem to have seen this before? Oh yes there was a manga... Did that manga even go somewhere with a real plot? No, I think it was mostly ecchi situations... The anime seems to go the same way. Standard shounen, standard trite dialogs, standard ecchi situations, it's a bit tiredsome if one has seen those before a few hundred times. I'm not sure I'm going to keep an interest.
Ookamikakushi - 01
A 16 year old boy, Hiroshi Kuzumi, has recently moved into a new town in the mountains. The town is separated into new and old streets by the river, and many mysterious local cultures still remain. Although confused and enjoying his new life, one person kept her distance from him: class committee member Kushinada Nemura. In their few encounters she gave him a word of advice: "Stay away from the old streets."
Animated visual novel, school life, supernatural.
This is a hodgepodge, with a disabled little sister, a yandere stalking cute tomboy, a vanishing harrassing classmate, a tsundere bossy classmate, a masked girl with a scythe, etc., etc.
I dunno, at one point I stopped paying attention to the story... Maybe because those blurry effects "for realism" annoyed me? Or is it because it looks like they are trying to appeal to too many things without any real focus? I haven't the foggiest...
Durarara 01
Ryu-gamine Mikado is a young man who longs for the exciting life of the big city. At the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi, he transfers to a school in Ikebukuro. Masaomi warns him about people he doesn't want to cross in the city: a violent man dressed like a bartender, an information merchant, and a mysterious gang called "Dollars". And to top it off, Mikado witnesses an urban legend on his first day in the city: the Headless Rider astride a black motorcycle.
The legends of Ikebukuro.
Not bad. The OP song was horrible, and they were blabbing for a long part of the episode, but when the action kicked in, it was interesting.
Hanamaru Kindergarten - 01
The story follows Tsuchida's first day at his first job as a kindergarten teacher. He meets Anzu, a cute little kindergartener, who probably has been watching too many dramas and thinks he's hitting on her. He arrives at the school to find that he's the only guy teacher (apparently male kindergarten teachers are very rare in Japan) amongst the all-female staff, including the especially pretty Yamamoto - a co-worker he instantly takes a liking too. And also happens to meet his old high school senpai, who happens to be Anzu's mother. Oh, and Anzu proposes marriage to Tsuchi, and her mother approves.
Slice of life as a teacher in a kindergarten.
Cute, well animated, and well done.
Then why did I fall asleep after 10 minutes of watching? Is it because it's too perfect and syrupy to be believable? Or is it because nothing of importance ever happen?
Let's see.... Wiki says "It is mainly about a kindergarten girl who is in love with her teacher and tries to win his affection but always fails."
I dunno...
Seems to me like Hanamaru is really the toddlercon version of Kodomo no Jikan.
I disagree about Durarara's OP being horrible. I thought the animation was interesting and the song fit the series.
Dance in the Vampire Bund 02
Ok, most of the episode was filler, with crap like real life scenery (??), and then a quick action scene at the end that didn't really fill me up, it was weakly patched together. It was not bad but it was not great either.
Some parts were well animated but they were sparse.
As for that vampire child... she was super-powerful in ep1, and now she is nearly powerless in front of the monster-of-the-week and had to be rescued? It didn't make sense, so I checked the manga for an explanation, and lo and behold, all that transforming monster stuff is not in the manga!
It doesn't bode well for the rest of the series....
Katanagatari 01
A girl named Togame arrives on the island where Shichika and his sister lives with a favor to ask from him. She tells him that she is on a mission to find and collect the final twelve swords forged by a master swordsmith and she needs his help.
(Semi-)animated light novel.
50 minutes for 12 "talking" episodes? Ouch.
Anyway, the art is ok, but... The music doesn't fit at times. The directing of the scenes is unpolished at times.
And a kind of a weak voice acting, it sounds like a recitation at times. All this talking breaks the rule of "show the action, don't just talk about it". If the art is minimalist then use it for action; if the action is minimalist then improve the art. But both were minimalist, so where did the extra care went to? In the swords that got flashed on screen a couple of times? Meh.
It's not dull, but it's lackluster.
A lot of these reviews seem to be a bit hard on the animes.
I enjoyed most of them being that their all nearly finished.
1st Rate, well done:
~ Dance in the Vampire Bund
~ Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
~ Durarara
~ Sora no Woto
2nd Rate (mostly "ecchi enhanced"):
~ Chu-bra
~ Omamori Himari
~ Seikon no Qwaser
~ Ladies vs Butlers
Some closer details. I'd say "Ookami Kakushi" was initially very poor as the main character isn't lovable at all and the whole story was EXTREMELY vague. While eventually the pace picked up as more and more was revealed but overall the whole thing was directed without much action.
As for "Hanamaru Yoichien"... I'd say that was quite good, everything went a bit slow paced though so I'd say it be better for lolicons that get excited over kindergartners or people who enjoy "soft", slice of life animes like that.
Seikon no Qwaser was a huge disappointment I'm sure for everyone. It had soo many of the famous and popular seiyuu including Aki, Aya and Yoko and various other ones that I forgot about, but in the end the animation was not right and the story was very weak.
Durarara was also quite vague from the start, but the slice of life style and the way it was done kept it interesting as opposed to Ookami Kakushi.
On the other hand, the two animes done by SHAFT atm, (Excluding last season's Bakemonogatari - My current fav) are pretty good. With dance in the vampire bund being for mild slasher, part romance viewers and Baka Test for more of the otaku fanbase similar to that of Lucky Star except a bit more "immature and fun".
In the case of Sora no Woto, I'd say it being like K-On is actually quite an interesting point. In this case I'd have to object to the fact that it is like K-On other than the art style. There aren't any slapstick phases in Sora no Woto. I'd describe it more like some excellently done slice of life "movie" style anime. In my opinion the whole thing felt like a movie from the first episode, it has humor, but not in the style that K-On portrays theirs in.
Other than that Omamori is this seasons number 1 harem ecchi cheap anime that still gets lots of viewers thanks to fanservice. "Genericism" xD
I must say that Ladies vs Butlers was a surprise for me. Before watching the first episode I didn't realize it was done by the same person who did Kanokon. Lots of fanservice involved as is his speciality while on the other hand I didn't enjoy this as much because it didn't have as strong a storyline and the whole thing wasn't directed aswell with all the characters being generic and very linear.
Chu-bra was a very second rate anime. The style and everything isn't very good but obviously again, there was a lot of ecchi themes. In my case, I'd describe it as an rate mature but made by immatures.
And thats what I see on this season's anime. Mostly all of them picked up by the end and are a lot better by then.
Working!! episode 1 came out recently btw. Part of this year's spring selection.
>A lot of these reviews seem to be a bit hard on the animes.
Yeah, maybe...
>~ Dance in the Vampire Bund
Well I still don't like it, too loli for me. Low pixiv fanart follow-up.
>~ Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
That one was ok. Not excellent -there's no story- but ok. Fanart on pixiv is mostly about the trap.
>~ Durarara
Very good. Huge pixiv fanart follow-up.
>~ Sora no Woto
I dunno. Story is sparse, and mostly moe filler. Very little pixiv fanart, and mostly about mocking the anime, or just about the scenery.
>~ Omamori Himari
Watchable, but not great. The main guy is useless.
>~ Seikon no Qwaser
Porn on TV with a budget. I didn't even want to review that one, but as porn it's not my cup of tea either, too sadistic.
>~ Ladies vs Butlers
I'm only watching the occasional nudity parts, I don't watch the story. As mild porn it's ok.
>Hanamaru Yoichien
Still 50-50. Some parts are very very good, other parts are Valium on Quaaludes. Probably written by two different scenarists.
>Working!!
I hesitate to review this one, as nothing important happens in the first episode, it was very episodic. I'm holding for the season to start before I give an opinion.
How exactly does Pixiv art follow-up factor into the quality of a series?
>How exactly does Pixiv art follow-up factor into the quality of a series?
It's an indicator, it gives a general idea of the response level for artists.
What do you propose? Anime polls? Sales?
I propose that the popularity of a series among some demographic shouldn't influence anyone's personal judgement of it.
I mean, judging by Pixiv art follow-up, Touhou and Hetalia are the finest works of art ever created. Is this also your opinion?
>I propose that the popularity of a series among some demographic shouldn't influence anyone's personal judgement of it.
Ok, then disregard my comments above about pixiv.
>I mean, judging by Pixiv art follow-up, Touhou and Hetalia are the finest works of art ever created. Is this also your opinion?
Touhou is not an anime, and reportedly never will. From what I can see Touhou is spoofing and stealing from all other anime, so it's more like a meta-troll.
Hetalia, I didn't see too much fanart originally. It was a political gay satire which was badly animated. Then fan artists started to branch out on their own spin-offs, working on the (neglected) women, and created real good artworks. It's not really representative of the anime at all, it's more about Personified Countries.
I have never seen Tortov Roddle pixiv links no wonder it must suck
Heroman 01
Upon hearing of a new toy robot, Joey believes that getting one will make his life better, turning him into a hero to protect his friends and family.
Robot vs Aliens.
Intro song start ok then degenerate quickly in horribly bad singing. (Well ok, at least it's not ALI Project!)
Nice animation. Story is on the simplistic side -- hopefully they will come up later with an good explanation why a thunderstorm can transform a toy in a giant hi-tech sentient robot with blue eyes.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama 01
Misaki Ayuzawa is the feared school president. But she secretly works part-time at a maid cafe in order to support her family. Unfortunately, the handsome and popular Usui Takumi discovers her secret by accident one day.
Tsundere in love.
Shojo. Will she fall in love with that handsome and popular and intelligent and everything guy?
B Gata H Kei 01
Yamada is a high school girl, and a virgin, who aspires to have 100 casual sex partners. But she finds herself pursuing only one boy.
Edumacational(?) comedy.
Last season we learned how to dress sexy as a girl in Chu-Bra. This season we'll learn how to have sex with 100 men (maybe.) But... what about love? Well, we don't care about that!
Ok, it was pretty funny overall, but the girl is not interested in love, her mind is only in the gutter. I feel sorry for the guy.
Angel Beats 01
In the afterlife, rebels battle against angels... with guns!
Afterlife shooter.
Some kind of purgatory, a la Haibane Renmei? But where did they find the guns? In some kind of Gantz ball or what? Huh... I need more info.
Ok, the concert was nicely animated.
Arakawa Under the Bridge 01
"Ichinomiya Kou has always lived according to the creed of his wealthy, successful family: never be in debt to anyone. But one day, under the Arakawa Bridge, his life is saved by a homeless girl named Nino. In order to pay her back, Kou promises to be her boyfriend; and thus begins his new life under the bridge."
Comedy.
Hilarious! ...for the first half of the episode, that is. I found the second part less funny. Hopefully the next episodes will be good.
Hakuouki 01 (raw)
Yukimura Chizuru is the daughter of a doctor who moves to Kyoto. One day, she decides to search for him, but is attacked. The Shinsengumi saves her, and discover that she's the daughter of the one they are looking for.
Pseudo-historical romance with 1 girl+many guys.
The girl looks very delicate and fragile. For the shoujo fan.
Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao 01 (AT-X version)
Akuto Sai is a serious and good-natured person, but it is predicted that he will become the Demon King in the future! Due to this, he leads a less than desirable school life in which the class president hates him, a weird girl lusts for him, and somebody dispatched by the Empire watches him closely. Despite his desires and personal convictions, misunderstandings seem to pile up around him. At the same time, Akuto has drawn the attention of a secret government security organization, as well as worshippers of the Demon King...
Magical harem comedy.
Harry Pott-... er, Akuto Sai is Vold-... er, the Demon King in a Wizard School of the future. It's ok, but British jokes may work better with a British accent... or maybe they were not very funny in this episode. I suppose they had to rush the set-up? No, there was even time to do a raid of the girl's dorms at the end as extra. Ok, it was maybe too rushed as an episode.
Senkou no Night Raid - 01
"The story is set in Shanghai in 1931, when the Imperial Japanese Army has been dispatched to mainland China due to the relatively recent First Sino-Japanese War, Russo-Japanese War, and World War I. In this cosmopolitan city of intrigue, there is a special military spy organization called "Sakurai Kikan" that has since been buried in history."
Thriller with super spies.
The Chinese used by one guy was so bad even I could tell it was fake. But apparently no one noticed. And nobody bothered to ask them why they were in the secret base?
Ok, the animation was nice, but the screenwriting could have been better. Unless this is a kids' show? I don't recall seeing blood, so maybe it is.
>>34
It airs at night, not during the day, so it's probably not a kids' show.
I see.
Mayoi Neko Overrun 01
Takumi lives with his stepsister, Otome, who manages a cake shop called Stray Cats. Since Otome is a good-natured but hopelessly clumsy girl, the shop is perpetually on the verge of bankruptcy. However, with the help of their neighbor and childhood friend Fumino, the shop just manages to get by.
Romance/comedy.
Nice. The first episode ran at high speed, if I blinked I would probably have missed a part of the story. On the other hand, the otaku was really obnoxious. Well, the girl was obnoxious too, but she was cute. Not sure where this is going to go next. A cake shop comedy? Or a school comedy?
Giant Killing 01
ETU is a weak pro-soccer club that has experienced a continuous losing streak. Takeshi is their new coach. But before Takeshi can change the fortunes of his old club, he must make some radical changes.
Sports anime.
Not a fan of sports anime, but this was a solid first episode.
Rainbow - Nisha Rokubo no Shichinin 01
Several minors are put into a reform prison where the doctor is a pedo and the guard is a sadist. The story will follow the lives of these characters trying to survive in their new environment.
Prison life grim drama.
Funny how the "pedobear" doc looks like a savior compared to the sadistic guard. Is that the implied message?
Anyway, too yaoi for me.
Working!! 01-02
Set in a family restaurant in Hokkaido, the northern prefecture of Japan, 16-year old high school student Takanashi Souta works part-time along with his strange co-workers.
Over-the-top caricature.
Ep01 was the intro. Well animated, but I felt sick after seeing Takanashi Souta punched over and over in ep02, and not reacting. Yeah, it's based upon a 4-panel gag manga, so it's a bunch of "punch lines"(!) culled together, it's not supposed to make too much sense... But those characters are one-dimensional, so when it's put in an anime sequence, it shows how much they are hopeless morons (moe-rons?).
For the fan.
>>39: Sounds like Enzai to me while toned down to have a TV series
House_of_Five_Leaves 01
Masterless samurai Akitsu Masanosuke is a skilled and loyal swordsman, but his naïve, diffident nature has time and again caused him to be let go by the lords who have employed him. Hungry and desperate, he becomes a bodyguard for Yaichi, the charismatic leader of a gang called "Five Leaves." Although disturbed by the gang's sinister activities, Masa begins to suspect that Yaichi's motivations are not what they seem. And despite his misgivings, the deeper he's drawn into the world of the Five Leaves, the more he finds himself fascinated by these devious, mysterious outlaws.
Samurai in pink.
The story may be good, but I got distracted by the faces, which look like they are a crossbreed of a frog with a snake, it's unsettling. And the samurai with blue eyes and a pink kimono looks like a seme (top), and the weak insecure samurai looks like he's going to be the uke (bottom).
For the fan.
I found house of five leaves quite interesting. The OP looked quite good before it showed so I decided to have a look but I thought i'd just get bored of it. But when I saw it I was quite engaged as I love humble heroes.
But as you said. The faces are drawn horribly >.> :P
The Tatami Galaxy 01
A late-ramen binge and an encounter with a self-proclaimed deity of matrimony lead a young man to flash back to his transformation from a hopeless romantic into a cruel black cupid.
College life.
Interesting. It looks like an hopeless chaotic jumble, but there's an underlying pattern of possible redemption. Will he man up and rise to the occasion, or will he waste the chance?
Ookami-san [to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi] 01
The story centers around Ryoko Ookami, a high school freshman girl known for her fierce looks, unusual canine teeth when she smiles, and wild demeanor. Ringo Akai is a short high school freshman girl with seemingly cute, angelic looks but a dark demeanor. Together with their odd friends, the two fight to change the world, one issue at a time.
Comedy? Romance? Or filler?
Uh, a mishmash of various styles, from Index/Railgun to K-On to Zero_no_Tsukaima to Toradora to Spice&Wolf...
Btw, digital tv screens -don't- show a scrolling shadow, this is an analog tv effect. Not a good sign. I suspect "science" will be bad in this series.
Ok, let's see what we have here: uber-powerful women, useless men... is this shoujo too?
Hey wait... they are breaking the fourth wall at the very beginning already? Ouch.
The idea is to prevent someone to resign in the name of love?
It feels like there will be no screenwriters and no plot here. But I thought it was supposed to be based upon 10 volumes of light novels??
Who is the intended audience?
I gave up half-way, fast-forwarded to the actions scenes, which were nice, and dropped the rest.
Amagami SS 01
A second-year high school boy is uneasy with love because of a bad experience. However this year, he gets his chance to confess to a girl... The story will be arranged in an omnibus format, with each heroine getting her own version.
High-school romance(slow-mance?).
Yuck, that was depressing. The guy is a wannabe shut-in (hikikomori), thinks slowly (in other words, a dolt), and is used by others. No wonder the girls are staying away. Am I supposed to cheer for the loser? Ah, it's based upon a dating simulation game... for otakus, I guess.
Shufuku no Campanella 01
In a trading city, Leicester Maycraft is an item engineer belonging to an adventurer guild. One night, he goes with a group of five girls to see a meteor shower. One meteor almost grazes them and enters the chapel. In there, he finds a room with... yet another girl in it.
Promotional anime for an adult harem game? Or?
I stagger at this spumescent story, swaying at the shortage of some startling secondary studs seeking to sparkle some soul in this syrupy soap. Shoo!
Seitokai Yakuindomo 01
Takatoshi is a new student in a recently gender-integrated high school, and is told to join the student council as vice-president. Thus begins his days as the only boy among three female student council officers.
School comedy.
Based on a 4-panel manga, so it goes: introduction, exposition, then joke/conclusion usually at the expense of the guy. Repeat for 20 minutes. Ok, it's well-drawn and well-done, but hopefully it will progress somewhere... or not?
High School of the Dead 01
The world is taken over by a deadly disease which turns humans into zombies. Several students band together to survive the present apocalypse. The story follows Takashi Komuro, with a group of other people.
Save the babes from the zombies!
A+. Nice animation and soundtrack. But the manga was never completed, how are they going to finish the anime?
Occult Academy 01
The story revolves around Maya - the daughter of the former headmaster of a private academy dedicated to the study of the occult who died in 1999, and a time traveling agent Uchida who travels back in time from 2012.
Comedy/supernatural.
Uh, this first ep looked like mere shock-and-awe, likely not related to the actual story. I'll have to see the second ep to see where it really goes.
Nurarihyon no Mago 01
Rikuo Nura, a boy who is part-human and part-youkai (demon), lives in a house full of spirits along with his grandfather. Trying to escape his fate of acting like a demon, he does good deeds in order to avoid becoming one, rejecting his grandfather's wish to succeed him as master of the Nurari youkai clan.
Youkai life.
This looks like Negima with youkai's. I recall trying to read the manga and quickly losing interest. I feel the same with the anime, like there's no real purpose. For the fan.
Mitsudomoe 01
In this episode, a newly-hired teacher, Satoshi Yabe, is terrorized by his sixth grade students, the Marui triplets. The stories will revolve around their antics.
Comedy.
The designs take some time to get used to (they look like hamsters, even the adults), but the gags were funny.
Shiki 01
During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. Hospital dean Toshio Ozaki cannot figure out the cause of death in the deceased...
Horror.
Ah, I recall checking the manga. It was slow to come up with a resolution, and the atmosphere was oppressing.
Ouch, I don't remember those nasty death scenes from the manga. It seems that the anime is stuffing some extra putridity.
That girl's design reminds me of "Loveless" somehow. Well, it doesn't seem that there will be any love in this story. Except for the name of the dog.
For the fan of mysteries.
Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu 01-02
Raina Lute (or Ryner? Reiner?) is a lazy student of the Roland Empire Royal Magician's school. One day, Roland Empire goes to war against a neighboring country, and he lost his classmates in the battle. After the war, Lute sets out for a journey to search the relics of a "Legendary Hero" at Emperor Zion Astar's command. And he finds out a deadly curse spreading the continent.
Adventures.
That girl is so bored she's fighting while eating dango? Well, it's working, I got bored too. I don't see why I should pay attention at her story, or the wimp's story. She doesn't seem to care for anybody, it doesn't seem there will be love (much less sex) either. No blood in sight. This is probably intended for pre-teens.
Asobi ni Iku Yo! 01 (Let's Go Play / Bombshells from the Sky)
The story centers around Kio Kakazu , a high school freshman living in Okinawa. During a memorial service for one of his family ancestors, a mysterious girl with cat ears appears before him introducing herself as Eris and claiming that she is an alien. However, she'll be more troubling than he first realizes.
Sci-fi.
Very good. The crazy guys... are the Earthlings! I think I'm going to like this series.
is there going to be any followup at all? or just a review of the first episode to give people a glimpse of whats going on and coming out?
also, who the fuck is sling he seems to be a prolliffic poster
>just a review of the first episode to give people a glimpse of whats going on and coming out?
Yes.
>also, who the fuck is sling
I'm just a random reviewer who puts a few comments on the new series. Others would use a blog or an imageboard website, I use this page.
>he seems to be a prolific poster
BTW, anybody can write a review here too if he wants. I'm sure they are people who don't like what I like or who like what I don't like. So more reviewers are welcome.
Break Blade 01
Rygart Arrow is born into a world of people who can use magic. They can control quartz, but Rygart cannot. When at military school, he became best friends with Hodr and Sigyn, the future king and queen of the Krisna Kingdom, and Zess, the younger brother of the Secretary of War of the Athens Commonwealth. Years later, the Athens Commonwealth has just declared war on Krisna. And Rygart discovers he can pilot an ancient mecha that cannot be controlled by magic users.
Science vs magic.
Nice scenery. Good mecha battles. Good animation. Music... was not bad, but it would have been better if it was toned down a bit for the dialogs.
Ok, let's see. They have marriage rings? And "3000 yen"? Is this a future Earth, or an alternate universe Earth?
Anyway, I look forward for more episodes.
Wait people don't know who sling is?
Tamayura OVA 01
"For her first year of high school, Fu Sawatari moves to Takehara, a scenic old town near Hiroshima, on the Inland Sea. Her father, who has passed away, grew up in Takehara. She loves taking photographs with his old film camera, a Rollei 35S. This "healing" slice-of-life anime from the director of ARIA follows her and the friends who gather around her as she comes to love her new home."
A K-on clone with cameras.
Moe(=slightly retarded) girls taking moe(=mecha) pictures of moe(=bland) things in a moe(=slow) manner.
Like the K-on girls, but using a camera instead of a guitar.
Nothing happened, so I lost interest.
For the fan.
>>59
Apparently not.
I mean, I don't either , but from he seems like a pretty cool guy.
Doesn't seem to afraid of anything, at least. He gets my vote.
Iron Man - 01
"Tony Stark travels to Japan to supervise the construction of an arc station there. The next day, he meets the pilots hoping to pilot Iron Man Dio, which will replace Tony when he retires from being Iron Man. Tony later holds a public event to show off the new model. However, during the event, something goes wrong with the Dio and he crashes. When one of the pilots tests it later, he gets brainwashed and attacks the other pilots..."
Superhero.
First half was full of lame stereotypes. Yawn. The second half was where the action kicked in, and was interesting. Hopefully it's going to go somewhere even more interesting in future episodes... but I won't hold my breath.
Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt 01
Panty and Stocking are angels who where kicked out of heaven due to their bad behavior. Meanwhile on Daten City, a group of ghosts starts to terrorize the place and takes advantage of human greed.
So Panty and Stocking are given one more chance to redeem themselves as Angels and get back to heaven by exterminating the ghosts plaguing the city.
Fast-paced toilet humor.
The Powerpuff Girls revisited by Gainax? Well, it's sacrilegious fun, I like it.
MM! 01
Sado is a masochist. For years, this has left him unable to confess to a girl he saw at his job. At the advice of his friend, he goes to join the school's second Volunteer Club. When he arrives, he meets Mio, the club president with a sadistic personality, and so, M meets S.
S&M romance-comedy.
Well animated.
I guess this is a kind of ToraDora, a small violent girl will find love with someone who is obsessed about something? But the side characters don't look very fleshed out. Well ok, it's just the first episode.
Bakuman 01
Mashiro, an average student but talented artist, meets with Takagi, a top student and aspiring writer. Takagi manages to convince Mashiro to join him in becoming a mangaka. Takagi hopes to make a successful manga, and Mashiro hopes to marry the girl of his dreams.
Mangaka life(?).
First ep was kind of ok I guess, but I'm uneasy as to where this is going...
A school romance? But the girl said she doesn't want to see him. (<- What?? That's not love, that's loonacy.)
A mangaka outcast life? But it feels like "Hatsukoi Limited", I suspect they are going to throw in more random teenager love angst. Probably with some other girls, as the main girl is too cuckoo in the head.
We'll see.
>>67
Don't worry, it's more about writing manga and hotblooded rivalries beetwen mangakas than teen romance.
Ore_No_Imouto_-_01
"For several years, Kyosuke's relationship with his younger sister Kirino has been cold, to the point that they only share greetings. But one day, Kyosuke finds a moe anime DVD fallen in their entry hall. His interest piqued, he looks for the owner, only to realize it belongs to Kirino. He's shocked, but more surprises lie just ahead..."
Comedy-Moedy.
The animation is smooth. 'Looks like a variant to the "I'm normal but my friend is an otaku" theme. And Kyosuke with his cynical inner monologues feels a bit like Kyon. This could be a hit.
Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls 01
"The story takes place in Japan in the early 21st century, in an alternate reality where the Tokugawa Shogunate has remained in power. In this reality, student councils are tasked with oppressing schools. Yagyuu Muneakira is a high school student who rebels against his student council with the help of girls who've had the names of famous samurai heroes passed on to them."
Samurai and Girls.
Very artsy. And very ecchi. I'm not sure if I have to pay attention to the plot or to the babes' curves? Because the plot seems murky, and those curves are blotted with ink splashes. Should I wait for the DVDs?
Star_Driver_-_01
"This story takes place on an island named Southern Cross Isle. One night, a boy named Takuto washes up on shore after having swum from the mainland. He later enrolls in Southern Cross High School as a senior and makes new friends. However, underneath the school is a group of mysterious giants called Cybuddies..."
Mysterious giant robots and stuff.
Eh? Uh? What happened? The first episode didn't explain anything important. I need to see another episode.
Super Robot Taisen OG - The Inspector - 01
"Six months after the conclusion of the L5 Campaign and the DC War, the crews of the PT carriers, Hagane and Hiryuu Custom have gone their separate ways. They are not far apart for long, however, as the remnants of the DC soon begin to push against the Federation Forces with newly acquired resources. A mysterious organization, the Shadow Mirror, has begun to arm them with weapons and robots that should not exist. Compounding matters, inter-dimensional entities known as Einsts begin to appear around the World and seem to share a psychic connection with ATX pilots, Kyosuke Nanbu and Excellen Browning. Even worse, aliens calling themselves, The Inspectors, have arrived from outer space with plans to retake the White Star and finish the job the Aerogators could not."
Robot wars.
Confusing! And who are the good guys in this mess? Are they winning or losing? I don't have a clue... But ok, I liked the tits of the girl in the red suit! Is that ok?
Otome Yokai Zakuro - 01
"In an alternate history of the Meiji era where humans and magical beings known as 'younin' live side by side, half-younin girls team up with army lieutenants to fight younin wrongdoers."
Fantasy.
This looks like an allegory for (brothel?) girls mixing with military men. But two of those military people are a scaredy bishounen with too-long hair and a kid... And two of those girls don't seem to be very familiar with men... An idealized shoujo fantasy?
For the fans.
Psychic Detective Yakumo - 01
"To help a friend possessed by a spirit, Ozawa Haruka knocks on the door of Saitou Yakumo, a man who is said to have spiritual powers. At first she is skeptical, but comes to believe him when he conveys messages from her dead sister. Together, they work to shed light on the terrible events which happened at their university."
Detective story.
A nice, emotional first episode. Hopefully it will stay as good in the upcoming episodes.
Yosuga_no_Sora_-_01
"Kasugano Haruka and his sister Sora have lost both their parents in an accident, and with them all their support. They decide to move out of the city to the rural town where they once spent summers with their late grandfather. At first everything seems familiar and peaceful, but changes come as Haruka starts to remember things from his youth."
Animated h-game.
Well-animated, but everything sounds so fake, with all the usual h-stereotypes packed together. All the girls are pretty, with each of them being a different type of mental fruitcake. Depressing...
But ok, the extras at the end after the credits were very good.
[What means "Yosuga no Sora"? "The sky of service"? "The sky of relationships"? Or it's a pun? "The relationship with Sora"? Dunno.]
Shinryaku! Ika Musume - 01
"Squid Girl has come to the land from the depths of the sea to conquer humanity for its pollution of the ocean. Unfortunately she ruins the first house she uses as an invasion base and has to work to pay for repairs. Of course, she can't overcome the Aizawa sisters who manage the house, so who knows whether she can subjugate humankind."
Squid invader takes a part-time job.
Well-animated and it's cute, in a childish way. But, the squid girl is supposed to not know anything about the world... Then how come she behaves like a polite, well-mannered Japanese? This feels like a "kodomo anime" [= teaching children how to behave as good and considerate people.]
Not sure I'm going to keep an interest.
The World God Only Knows 01
"Keima Katsuragi is a gamer known as "the Capturing God." One day, he gets an e-mail challenging him. He accepts, and a girl from Hell appears. She asks his help to capture runaway spirits which are hiding in people, and tells him that if he refuses his head will be cut off."
The 3D only the Devil knows.
Pretty good, it's very lively.
But I'm a bit hesitant about the concept of "runaway spirits". As the Hell's girl is working for the dark side, there's probably a catch. I wonder what will happen after a while, as the memories are reset after a victory, but not for him. Is he going to snap, become a "runaway", and it will be Game Over for him?
Fortune Arterial - 01
"After a childhood full of school transfers, Hasekura Kouhei's parents finally send him to a traditionally-Christian boarding school so he won't have to move with them. Finally free to have the calm and uninterrupted school life he's always wanted, he instead find himself busy with a swarm of idiosyncratic friends."
Wimpy vampires.
A solid beginning, I like it. Then the girls arrive, and it degrades to low-level crapola, but ok, let's endure through this... Then it suddenly turns out to be actually a cheap vampire story? No buildup? No exposition(, not even of the girl in the bath)? No foreshadowing? What happened to the original storyteller, was he fired or what? Oh well...
For the fan.
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru - 01
"Clumsy Arashiyama is a girl with a knack for getting into trouble. She works for an old lady's lackluster maid cafe in a small shopping district. The cafe is largely unsuccessful in attracting customers aside from Sanada, one of her classmates. One day, Arashiyama's friend, Tatsuno, comes to the cafe, and upon seeing the state of things, she decides to work there."
Mosey maid meanders into moe.
Contrasting capers crash into cacophony.
The ED is exactly like that, everybody playing musical instruments badly and it sounds like hell.
Some may like this, but for me this is giving me a headache.
(Is that the intended message? Moe is Hell?)
For the fan.
Kuragehime - 01
"Amamizukan is an apartment complex where no boys are allowed. Kuragehime Tsukimi, a girl who adores jellyfish, lives there happily with her friends who all have nerdy obsessions of their own. Their peaceful lives gradually start to change when a beautiful woman helps Tsukimi out of a pinch. She moves into the apartments -- but it turns out "she" is really a "he.""
Slice of romance.
Pretty good.
I wonder who's that hidden men-hater boss. Could it be that... it's a guy?
Tantei Opera Milky Holmes 01
"Sheryl, Nero, Elly, and Cordelia are the most popular students at Holmes Detective Academy, because of the many cases they've solved with their Toys and teamwork. The students and the people of the Detective City Yokohama all look up to the members of "Milky Holmes", as they're called. But on a dark and stormy night, during a battle with their rivals "The Gentlemen Thief Empire", they lose their toys, and their fate undergoes a dramatic change..."
Thieves vs Detectives.
I heard the trailer was much more sexy and that ep1 got dumbed down, but I can't find the trailer... If the dumbed-down rumor is true, then that sexy babe in the ED won't ever become sexier.
I need to see one more episode to get an idea where this series is going.
