seek books with lone characters (5)

I seek to read more stories where the main character is alone. Either doesn't want to go out/ talk to other people,
or is unable to because there are no other people.
Or maybe there are more, similar circumstances where a character is alone.

I am not saying "books like this!", but I liked how Robert Neville was alone in "I Am Legend", and I liked Satou in "Welcome to the NHK!". These are only examples, and again, I do not want more stories just like these (though you can certainly still recommend)

I also just had the idea: Are there books where the main character is on a computer all the time? I think a book with that premise would sell millions.

Don't even mention Densha Otoko.

I think Alberto Moravia has a story like that, but it's in German and really damn short...

"Ligeia", or "Eleonora" (can't remember which, haha) is also from the point of view of one character.

I've never read it myself, but my uncle tells me most of "Pi" is about "A guy by himself on a boat". Might be worth checking out.

And it's not exactly what you're looking for, but "The wolves of memory" by George Allec Effinger is an amazing book about a small group of people who are exiled to a desolate planet with no means of communication aside from a computer. The protagonist is alone for much of it, and for the rest, the cast of characters is limited and transient.
