[Idea bank] Interesting uses in ways you're not accustomed to [experiment time!] (19)

Here's where to post alternative uses of ingredients, that doesn't seem to be really common, or post uses that may be very local to some place (this is an international board, after all).

  • Someone at 2ch mentioned that red wine was rather good poured on vanilla ice cream, and so I had to try. Even though I don't really like red wine, the combination tasted really good!
  • Another thing (which I myself do not feel is anything weird, but caught my sibling's attention) was that I put some sliced, really ripe and sweet kiwis on a slice of bread, with a cheese slice on top. Apparently this is odd, somehow.. Though if you can put marmalade/jam on bread with cheese on top, why not fresh fruits?

Wine on ice cream is even better if you simmer the wine into a syrup first.

Well, if you eat fruit with cheese, why not with bread too?

Apples and cheddar

Peaches and cottage cheese

Stuff like that.

Watermelon and feta cheese = win.

O_o;;
I need to try that.

Someone once said that honey + cucumber tastes very similar to some melon-flavours.

Melon wedges topped with thin slices of good ham like prosciutto is common in some areas. Makes a really good apetizer.

Watermelon, feta, red onion, AND stale crusty sourdough bread.

>>8 I'm pretty sure he's talking about cantelope. I've seen it at parties, sweet and salty.

Chips (crisps) sandwich.
If you haven't tried this, you haven't lived.

The orange ones... basic melons.

I like tomatoes + pineapples. If you add a bread product into the mix, even better. I first discovered this when having pizza topped with pineapples, but you can combine those three tastes in any other way.

Yes, absolutely.

Good ideas in this thread. Here's another one: you know those little croissants you can get in cans at the grocery store? Pillsbury or some off-brand, doesn't matter - you roll them into the croissants and stuff. Two ideas - one, pigs in blankets, this is an old one: roll a sausage and cheese inside. Another more unique one - take them fully cooked per the directions. Dip them in chocolate milk and grape jelly. I haven't done that in years but it's awesome.

Cucumber sliced in small pieces into yogurt, add salt and pepper and any kind of herbs you like.

You mean the old white trash classic, chips between slices of white bread coated with mayonnaise? My digestive tract would not forgive me.

Soy Milk+Apple Juice; may taste a bit strange if you're not used to soy.

Apples/Apple Pie+Cheddar Cheese; I know some places it's very common, however some places people have never heard about it.

Shave cheese into pancake mix right before its ready to go on the pan.

There was some kind of cheese I had with apples one time that was the most delicious combination ever. I can't remember what the cheese was though. It was an off-white color, and somewhat crumbly like parmigian.

Sounds very close to tzatziki sauce, especially if you grind it all together in a blender or food processor and put a big dollop on a gyro pita.

This works better with tart apples like Granny Smith, IMO.
