Wii VS ps3 (17)

In japan, however most stores are stacked to the ceiling with ps3s, Wiis always sell out within an hour after they're arrived at any store.

How is the machines in foreign countries these days?

The situation seems to be the same. It is still very hard to find a Wii, but it is very easy to find a PS3 at a store such as Best Buy. Also, some of the people who bought a PS3 just to sell them at a higher price are having a very difficult time with this.

No PS3 sales, since its not out here yet (in the UK). Wiis are either sold out or on sale for at least twice their normal price. When the PS3 is finally launched, its expected to be very successful since the PS2 has dominated until recently, but because its late and at a very high price I'm not so sure. The Xbox 360 is very strong here as well, I can't tell which one of the three will come out on top.

The Dreamcast had good games, though. PS3 does not.

I can honestly say there are not really fun games for PS3 yet.
I guess that It is necessary for dissemination of PS3 to release a big hit game such as PS2's Onimusha.
I 'm looking forward to get Gundam Muso in this March.

PS3 because of it's 600 price tag would make it very hard to sell compared to the Wii's 250's price tag. Duh of course.

But the reason behind that is that Japan just doesn't want to purchase a 600 dollar gaming machine, because they need to focus on their living expenses and they need money to support their families.

But, I do believe PS3 has the ability to rise, they aren't doing it well. They lack games, they lack exclusives, and Blu-Ray is just damn useless.

3rd reason, Xbox360 with their one year launch is able to overtake the PS3. Why pay 600 dollar for a machine with 1 or 2 games, when you can pay almost half the price for a machine with a much larger selection and virtually looks the same.

The way I see it is that sony's launch was mainly hype (I live in New York). I think that they allowed the number of ps3's to go out on launch day to be limited to get free publicity.

People waiting on line for a week, shootings, ebay.

But now, a couple months after its launch, some stores near me with a steady stock of ps3 aren't being sold.

I myself bought a wii on black friday with some difficulty, (I went to 3 stores til I found one. I was expecting to have to search at at least 5 locations). It wasn't until closer to the holiday season that I found my friends finding it really hard to get one. Even now my cousin has yet to be able to get one in her area.

I've been able to play the ps3 at a friend's house. He has a nice tv and the component cables. Resistance looks pretty nice, and my friend showed me a lot of downloadable demos, but beyond that I didn't see much functionality beyond that.

The ps3's browser looks like its well off whereas the wii has the trial version out, but the wiimote makes typing stuff in a whole lot faster without having to buy a periphial. The ps3 has typing just like the psp, which I have and find very annoying.

in western canada, you can find PS3s on shelves but the wii is still impossible to get without either being super lucky and walking in right after a shipment or having to call the shops constantly and hunt one down with effort.

I get the strong feeling that SONY is trying to make of the PS3 a machine that they will be able to sell for an extended period without being forced to release a new console.
I know that this is common knowledge, but game companies lose money on hardware and make it on software - the console is sold at a loss and then we pay through the nose for the games.
The PS3 is a powerful computer with sophisticated tech that most programmers and game companies don't know how to use yet, and it will probably stay powerful for several seasons, whereas Microsoft will have to release another console (at loss) to continue improving much sooner than SONY.
It turns out that Microsoft never really made a significant profit on the Xbox before they released the 360 - by the time their profits from games matched the loss in producing consoles, they released their new system. This doesn't really hurt them, because Gates has more money than he knows what to do with, and he is trying to firmly entrench Microsoft as a serious competitor in video games.
The Wii is a new system that is very experimental and will probably be done in a few years. That doesn't mean it isn't awesome, (it is) it is simply not a long-lived piece of hardware.
I think that SONY is trying to break out of the cycle of releasing a new system every 5 years. They saw what happened to SEGA (which they caused with the PS2) and they want to avoid the same problem.

Yeah, but the thing is that this time around Microsoft is actually making money off of the Xbox 360, whereas Sony is losing $300 per unit.

See, that really shouldn't work, b/c if Microsoft is actually turning a profit on the hardware, you'll be buying another one next year - they'll need to upgrade. Even if SONY loses $300 a unit, if it doesn't have to release again, it comes out ahead.
