Rettsu Pictochat! (12)

Pictochat! It's the worst chat system ever, but I love it. Not just for the wangs. Not just for the screen people spent 5 minutes painting black before sending 20 copies of it. But for the utter simplicity in getting it running.

I mean, there aren't many IM systems where you can just turn on and chat.

People say Pictochat is a haven for pedophiles but I disagree. I use it all the time and the youngest girl I've ever seen was 15, not pedo material at all.

Discuss.

Nobody here has a DS, much less gets on Pictochat.

So it's useless as shit for me.

Same here.

I thought 10% of people owned a DS.

In Japan? Probably. Here, not so much. The best pictochat comes from large groups of nerds gathered in one place, like a convention. Standing in line for an event or sitting in the audience for a masquerade are prime pictochat opportunities.

Pictochat is the most useless IM system. As far as I know, it isn't Wi-Fi enabled, much less open to random strangers.

I have never once encountered another person using pictochat "in the wild" as it were. In fact the only time I've ever used it was when I was testing the range of the DS's wireless communications with a friend. Anyone with a DS on public transport, or waiting for something, or under the desk in a lecture, or whatever, is generally playing a game rather than sitting there with pictochat open waiting to see if someone else uses it. You could say to them "hey! let's pictochat" but at that point you might as well just talk to them for reals.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It uses Wi-Fi to communicate. What you probably mean is that it doesn't support connecting to the wider internet, which is completely different from what it was designed to do.

But yeah, conventions are where it's most useful.

Fine, yes, I meant that. It's more like LAN than the World Wide Web. I think the range is 30 feet, right? That's useless except for conventions or something.

30 feet worst case scenario, 100 feet with clear line of sight. So at conventions, you get quite some awesome range. :-)

I use PictoChat to scribble silly pictures when I'm bored, so it's not entirely useless for me.
