It's used in a pawn shop, for like 50 or 80 bucks... Do I get it? I mean, really? what am I going to do with it? Okay, thanks for your input. never really played any DC games, so I need your knowledge.

It's a pretty great console if you're into arcade game. If you're not, well, there are a few good non-arcade games too, but the library of titles isn't very huge. In this respect you could almost think of it as a 3D neo-geo.
Look up 'dreamcast' of youtube to see some of the games in action.

Also, note that dreamcast emulation is slowly becoming pretty good, if you're only curious about a few games.

But anyway, if you're gonna buy, compare the prices, for $80 I'm sure you could like 3 used dreamcasts.

$50 is a little pricey, but it's worth it if you have no other options. $80 isn't worth it.

Plus it's so easy to pirate for the thing. Just burn and go.

based on this, I think I'll just pass for now. I have enough consoles as it is (NES, SNES, Gameboy, SP, NDS, N64, PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii) so i'll stick to my guns. thanks for the info! I'll just emulate if I get curious

Toss the NES, SNES, Gameboy and get an emulator. Save space and play every game.

you can emulate every one of those consoles in some way

15 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2008-02-06 12:03 ID:q4NLxj7d

so?
u can emulate the dreamcast too
also i dont think a serious gamer who own so many consoles would toss or sell one to save space or to get money to buy another

OP here - yeah, as much as I like emulators, I find the games less fulfilling when played on an emulator. maybe i could set up a Emulator box and hook it up to my tv, but I (being a collector of rare console vintages) much prefer to own the actual cartridges. Although - it must be said that when you grow older, you have less time for these things, and save states and rewind make for a much FASTER game. that's part of the loss, though...

>you can emulate every one of those consoles in some way
>N64

Project 64 still has compatibility issues with quite a few games with no fix in sight for many of them.

>PS1

I've had trouble with several PSX emulators personally, but I got one working recently and sometimes just mounting images works and sometimes I have to burn the CD. Kind of a hassle when you go back and forth between games often.

Skies of Arcadia
Jet Set Radio
Dead or Alive 2
Project Justice
Typing of the Dead
SEGA mega collection pack thing with Altered Beast and Streets of Rage 2 on it.

Maybe old Phantasy Star Online if you haven't got ahold of any of the other versions.

Not particularly well. Unless it was a mainstream/cult game, they tend to not emulate well as there isn't any major demand for them to work properly.
