No Idea what to buy... (13)

Hey

Got a bit of a problem. Got a $60 gift card for a gaming store, but for once I have NO idea what to buy... I'm an RPG fan, but I still enjoy other games. I'm willing to buy PS2/3, Wii, and DS.

Is there anything recent that's come out for those systems you guys would recommend? Or, more importantly, something coming out soon? I'm more or less debating whether to buy some highly overpriced new game for the ps3 or something, or try and scour around for some lost and forgotten titles I may have missed on the PS2? I was considering KH Re: Chain of memories, but decided I really didn't want to bother playing the same game just for some 3d and voices. Nothing highprofile I've seen lately really jumps out at me, and I'm hoping I've missed something good.

i did happen to see persona 4 while i was out and about, but I was leery of buying it, as I heard all the games from the tensei series were really hard and full of grind.

what did you like about it?

Also, I never played the first Ar Tonelico - what are those games like?

persona 4 is like persona 3. Same grinding dungeons, repetitive (after a while) annoying school sym (not my thing) BUT it has great characters, great story , touch bosses and the conversations are hilarious (it's pretty close to mature content(language-: shit, ass, dumbass, etc )

So if you were to choose a game, i would def choose persona 4(which i did^^)

hmm, I'll have to give that a look then.

Any other takers for a chance to shout out "buy this game!"

Alright, what the hell happened to the games industry. I've looked at all the recent games, and games coming out, and seriously, there's only Ar Tonelico 2 and Persona 4?

Really?

looks like Persona 4 will win out, but yeesh. I think I might finally be reaching my limit of just giving up and focusing completely on my retro collection...

>>6 lol i agree. The Next Gen is a joke (ps3,xbox,...) and the ps2's retro is pretty good. For now, i'm waiting till Patch 3 is out for Front Mission 5.

well, anyway, I picked up persona 4, really stoked that it comes with a cd of the soundtrack - i'm a nerd for those sorts of things. had some left over cash, so bought "tokobots plus" and "technic beat" on a lark.

I have to confess i never bought Persona 4, downloaded it and downloaded the soundtrack:). Last game i bought was MGS4 and what a disappointment that was:s. Just found out FFXIII's battlesystem is gonna be like FFXII, and that SUCKS ASS (i'll play a pirated a copy on the xbox , fuck buying)

funny - the battle system is one of my favourite parts of FFXII. I used to pirate PC games, but I don't really bother with that anymore. Modded my PSX but found out that i really didn't want to just have the burned copies.

Although I hear ya on prices these days. 59.99 for a ps3 game just irks my pocketbook.

although, back in the old days, Final Fantasy III was 120 bucks, so what can I say?

Hey, I managed to find a copy of the first Ar Tonelico for 20 bucks - kinda stoked about that. I always like 3D with 2d sprites. And I've heard the amount of innuendo in the game is hilariously huge.

cool, good going, although by reports the second game is a lot better than the first. i liked AT1 anyway, great setting - but the story/characters are kind of weak and the game is too easy.
some of the excessive innuendo was apparently added by the publisher in translation, by the way.

>>12 I've started to fall in love with games that are "too easy." I mean, yeah, sometimes I want a long-ish drawn out epic tale and some challenge, but lately now that I have less free time, a nice simple game sounds just about right. Also, that fact that it sounds like it doesn't take itself seriously is a plus to me. That was part of the magic of Earthbound, and that game rocked.

Although, we'll see if the innuendo comes off as humorous or shamefully tacked on.
