Slow paced FPS? (21)

Hi. I like playing FPS, but lately I've run onto many fast paced FPS. It's not that they are bad games, but I prefer a slower pace. I like stalking other players, hiding, ambushing, surprising and cornering them, sometimes by myself, other times by working in team as the designated marksman, while the others drive the enemies to my range.
I've tried a few new FPS, but most of those were very fast paced, and I didn't enjoy them much. Is there such a game that could probably gie me all that I'm looking for in a FPS? If possible, something not very harware intensive. Thanks =)

Eeerrrmh, besides Sniper Elite.

There were quite a few sneaking levels in Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

this is a bit of a legacy bargain bin title, and it's not exactly an fps, but "Cold War - behind enemy lines" was all about sneaking and assembling weapons out of the spare parts you find lying around.

I warn you though, the "cinematics" were so awful I would have preferred they weren't even in the game.

oops, my bad - it doesn't have "behind enemy lines" in the title.

Stalking you say? Might I suggest S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl if you want a single player experience

I remember having fun with the first two SOCOMs, but I believe those are Sony systems only.

I'm sorry I didn't respond to this earlier, but my brain fell out!

Neotokyo is a HL2 mod that's basically like Counterstrike mashed together with Ghost in the Shell. You get to pick between 3 classes, each with a different (but somewhat overlapping) weapon selection, different attributes like therm-optic camo, and different alternate vision modes. The game encourages careful play, it's pretty much impossible to run and gun except as a Support (huge armor, ignores headshots), but then "run" is really sort of crawl. One caveat, voice communication and team coordination is essential, and I haven't played in a while but it was usually impossible to get that with pubs.

It's still pretty nifty though.

Just downloaded Neotokyo, and it's insanely tough. Definitely takes getting used to.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay

I don't know if that's what you'd call "not hardware intensive" though, but it is pretty old. Great stealth game, has a lot of run and gun action though. But definitely not what I would call "fast-paced".

Some run and gun action, but has a strong focus on stealth in many levels, although you have some choice as to how you go about playing. The stealth sections are a bit like Splinter Cell but without the stupid ability to hide in tiny shadows in the middle of streets and hallways, etc, and without having to walk around all crouched and hunched over all the time.

How about America's Army?

Sure, you gotta run and have good reflexes, but most of the time is just sitting and waiting.

If you don't mind trading in your gun for a short bow, than the Thief series is pure stealth. Old so obviously not hardware intensive.

Rainbow Six. The whole series (with the possible exclusion of lockdown, vegas, and vegas 2) is pretty slow paced. There's lots of action in terrorist hunts, but it's based on stealth, suprise, and strategy.

Any of the games from the Battlefield series. Pick the sniper class, find a camp spot, grab a drink, and pick them off and laugh.

Laugh about what?

Maybe Deus Ex 2?
Pretty open ended gameplay. You can choose to play stealthy, or run and gun it, and/or talk/manipulate your way through some parts of the game. I think you can even sign on to be an assassin or spy for different groups in the game, and you can play a double agent as well.

This is really taking far too long. I say we all register accounts, mature them, and all hit the same board within the same 10 minutes. There'll be uproar.
SBAllen hasn't had to deal with any major shit since he took over. It's time we inducted him into the real world.
