What do you think happens after death? (37)

I prefer that you do not use strong profanity.

2 Name: Anonymous : 2008-04-17 08:13 ID:K0ORpWOJ

Those you leave behind go crazy and do things like this:

Thankfully you'll be dead, so you won't have to suffer the embarrassment.

What about weak profanity?
Actually, these days, pretty much all profanity is weak profanity.

You're dead. Your body decomposes, and / or turns into strange wax-like stuff, unless you chose to be burned. End of story.

That's not exactly what I meant. I meant, do you get reincarnated? Do you go to heaven? Stuff like that.

From the dust you came, to the dust you will go.

i think >>4 and >>8 are right, but i'd like to believe there's some sort of life after death.

a crazy theory i came up with in high school was history is constantly happening. right now, WWII, the Holocaust, the US Civil War, etc, are all happening somewhere in time. after death, i figured a person's "soul" or personality would get reset back to nothing and be sent to another place in time, perhaps be reborn as another person in another time period. in essence, souls are "recycled" throughout time; i felt this explained the whole "perhaps we know each other in another time" idea.

Actually, that's exactly what I thought you meant, and exactly what I answered to. Life's over, you had your run, no reason why there should be any sort of afterlife (And frankly; Would you want to live forever, if you could? Eternity is a long time, and you'll run out of interesting things eventually, or lose your drive to do anything at all, without anything to limit you...), now make room for the next set of people.

Nope, you'll just be dead. No postmortem shit, no repercussions, no brownie points, .. the universe as you know it will basically end for all you know.

Don't see it as a bad thing though. Fully realizing this is extremely liberating. It takes practice for most people, though.

When you're dead your whole body doesn't function anymore, so there's nothing to experience. You're just some material. It's in the same state it was before you were born, you were random food and fluids that were used to grow your body - just some material.

If you believe that there is nothing after death, then I prefer that you do not post here.

it's just like sleeping, only you won't ever wake up.

well i mean sleeping in the sense that you don't know what's happening. the world can be ending and you won't know.

When I die, I'd like to be come plant food. Make them pretty flowers and trees grow nice and big from my organic matter.

Personally, I'm convinced Borges nailed it in "Del infierno y del cielo."

I don't like Atheists. The idea of there not being a God is something I can live with. The idea that humans are animals whose emotions are just chemicals, cease to exist after death, and have no actual purpose? That's horrifying.

27 Name: Anonymous : 2008-05-07 16:33 ID:Heaven

>>26

I honestly cannot tell if this is a troll.

But I'll bite.

>humans [...] have no actual purpose?

Hammers and computers and cars have a purpose. Why would a human want one? Everybody does what they think is right. What more do you want?

I am an Atheist and part of me wants to believe there is something after death, but likely you are worm food. But I hope there is reincarnation. I would like to come back as a cat...

"God"/religion is a mental crutch the weak use to get through life. If that does not work, they become alcoholics or drug users if they cannot hack what life throws at them.

ME? I turned to anti-depressants and alcohol. I am not weak, I just need something to take the edge off reality.

Well, death is just vacations that you take between playing hide-and-seek with oneself. Or a nap rather.

i hope theres a god an aferlife/reincarnation/whatever.
it just seems unlikely. and yes, it does get depressing, and at often times, horrifying. i hope it'll become easier to deal with as i get older. stopped believing sometime in highschool. i'm 21 now

Hopefully some sort of immortal afterlife. I'd like it if it were like Garrys mod.

Agent Smith: Why, Mr. Anderson, why? Why, why do you do it? Why, why get up? Why keep fighting?

Do you believe you’re fighting for something, for more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is, do you even know? Is it freedom or truth, perhaps peace - could it be for love?

Illusions, Mr. Anderson, vagaries of perception. Temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself. Although, only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love.

You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson, you must know it by now! You can’t win, it’s pointless to keep fighting! Why, Mr. Anderson, why, why do you persist?

(awesome scene, and Neo's response sucks..)

36 Name: Anonymous : 2008-06-23 13:50 ID:1Iez4y12

>>35

Yeah Neo's response does suck.

But in reality, you are worm food, served on a $10,000 plate (called a coffin/burial vault).
