Anyone here keep fish or other aquatic pets? I have a goldfish that's outgrowing its tank. Is there a maximum size or should I try feeding it less?

goldfish need larger than a 10 gallon tank to survive. there's nothing you can really do aside from getting a bigger tank if they're really outgrowing it's tank. how crouded is it? how big is your tank?

Was 2.5 gallon, now 5 gallon. Lots more room now. Is that really too little, and will they just keep growing?

yeah goldfish need at least a 10 gallon if you have one. but if it's still small, it might be fine for now. but just look for a cheap 10 gallon in the classifieds or something as you will probably need it. how into aquaria are you? do you plan to go on with fishes or do you just want this one. If you are serious about setting up a real tank, you might want to look into getting guppies or tropical fish or something. they poop a LOT less than goldfish and are pretty to look at. if you want something small or if you like having individuality in your pets (as the other fish are usually swarms and hard to name since they all look the same), I would definately suggest getting a betta (fighting) fish. they live from 2-4 years on average. they don't need a filter and can live in a 5 gallon easily. all you have to do is every week put the fish in a small cup or something, take the bowl, rinse it out, fill it back up (make sure you declorinate) and put the fish back in.

but if you prefer the goldfish and it has lots of room ( i don't know what kind you have) it might be fine for now. but just know goldfish can keep growing so keep an eye out for good tank deals or people that want to adopt or something.

i used to have a shitload, but now i only have a pond.
i used to only keep agressive freshwaters. i had a tank for my green terror, one for my albino tigeroscar, one for my jack dempsy, one for my kribensis couple (they had fry, so cute), a female betta community tank, dozens of seperate male bettas (plakat and crowntail only) and a freshwater puffer tank.
me = fish obssesed. than i had to move and couldnt take them all with me, so i only took my jack (he was above average size, about 11 inches) and gave the rest away. than i moved again but felt he couldnt make the 3 day car trip.
so now i onl have a pond that i built in my backyard. i moronically put gambusia in it (mosquito fish) along with platies. the platies are having a hrad time breeding due to the gambusia eating theor fry. but so far i have one new play baby nd hes so fucking cute.

yeah. martial arts will be a great hobby. You'll have fun, and at the same time, not being bored trying to be physically fit.

Hmm, kinda old thread. Meh, whatever. The same thing happens to angelfish. Some fish grow to suit their environment, some fish don't. One great thing I could have sold my angelfish back to the pet store I'd originally bought mine at some years earlier for a lot more money since they're larger and have already proven themselves to be healthy. That's not always an option I'm sure.

In my case I eventually gave mine to a friend with a 60 gallon tank. He kept them another 3 years before needing to move. I didn't follow their progress after that.

Fish only die of disease or injury they won't ever die of old age. Some Japanese koi are centuries old.
