I've been pretty bored the past month and wanted pick up something kind of crafty. Knitting sounds like an easy and practical skill to learn. Does anyone here knit? How should I start out - tutorials, materials, projects?

Find some really really old-school beginner's knitting books at a thrift store, as well as some wool and needles while you there. Shouldn't set you back an hours pay, wherever you live. Pick one with beautifully retro illustrations. Photos that old are really hard to follow.

It also helps if you have someone show you physically, just to get your wrists and grip flowing nicely.

Don't jump into a project straight away. Knit and practice as much as you want until you get a feel for it.

For inspiration, craftster.org have some savvy knitters there.
