I speak english and french natively, how long should it take me to gain a decent understanding of spanish? I went to spain last summer and was surprised to see that I could understand most of the written things I was exposed to (restaurant menus, signs, booklets in museums, etc).

Also, is it true that spanish grammar is fairly easy? French grammar is a b*tch (it's way too illogical), I sure as hell hope spanish grammar has some logic to it...

spanish grammar is a great deal similar to french, it shouldn't be hard for you. I'd say it'd take you about 2 years to master a good level in spanish.

Speak French? You'll be fine. Spanish grammar is similar to French grammar, but much more logical. It's not enough to tough for me, and I'm native in only English.

It's very easy! You should be fine! Two years is no sweat. Just listen to it when you can and work on it on your own and you could do it.
