Love Actually (8)

I am a college student getting my degree in Japanese. Last year I was sitting in the Language lab and one of the Japanese tutors [Miss M.] was sitting down looking alone. I went over to ask her for some help with my homework, and we ended up talking a lot. We became really good friends and she even came to my house to celebrate dinner with me and my family...however I never moved on beyond that because I was too shy and afraid of what might happen. I know I probably sound pathetic in this post but I have very sincere intentions. Last month I found out that she is coming back to my college to pursue her masters degree and I am really nervous to see her again after a long year. I am not sure as to whether or not I should try to go into a relationship with her or not..... I am just looking for some advice so I am not stuck in a rut when the time to see her comes again.

The worst thing Miss M. can say is no. As long as you go about pursuing her in a respectful manner you don’t have much to lose. I can’t imagine her not wanting to still be friends with you if she does not reciprocate these feelings, but there is a chance. What you need to ask yourself is can you live with yourself if you do not pursue your feelings for her? Would you rather live with regret or rejection? If you have to think about your decision, don’t tell her. Love is just something you know.

Yes I am getting a degree in Japanese. I use to live in Japan but I never really studied Japanese when I left so I lost all of my knowledge about Japanese, so now that I am in college I figured I would pursue Japanese so I can go and live there one day.

ha, nostalgia. i had a crush on one of my japanese professors once. over 10 years ago now. i do regret not pursuing that relationship a bit harder, but i ended up transferring anyway. if shes just a tutor i dont see whats holding you back, go for it. you even have a practical reason to see her.

although, i would also like to call you out on the major, and id go another step and suggest you seriously rethink it. at least bolster it with something more academically sound like linguistics. it is virtually impossible to become sufficiently fluent in any language at the undergrad level. even if you manage to pull it off, it wont be because of the classes you took, itll be from the efforts you put in on your own time. a japanese degree in and of itself is virtually worthless, if you cant pass the level 1 JLPT your degree means nothing. and you could certainly pass the level 1 JLPT -without- a degree in japanese. a BA in japanese is almost certainly not enough to get you to a point where you could pass it.

I know, that is why I am getting a second degree in either Film or Archaeology.

>>6 assuming you arent being sarcastic youve somehow managed to find 2 majors even more useless than japanese. unless you dont intend on -working- after you get your degree i guess.

I do intend on working after I get my degree and I also have a job waiting for me in Japan. I just need to graduate and have a bachelors in Japanese. Also if I really want to I can get a certificate in teaching or whatever so that way I am not completely jobless when I graduate. I have a few plans so that way I am not with out a job. Living in Alaska it isn't to hard to get a job where they need some one for translating or whatever so I am not too worried about it.
