Hey 4ch! Okay, like the title says, I need a little advice. Here's the thing, I met a wonderful guy whom I would like to get closer to, but I'm moving out of state and he's moving to another state as well. I feel like he'd like to get to know me as well but is a little shy about it. Personally, I'm a little gun shy because I've never dated anyone before and don't quite know how to go about the whole business. My question is if I should throw caution to the wind at least give it a try. Despite me being a relationship rookie, I believe that I could hypothetically sustain a long distance relationship. So 4ch, if anybody ever done something like this or has any advice to dispense, please be kind and give me your wisdom! Thanks! ^_^

Yes, kick caution to thee curb and go for it. Even if it does not work out you do not loose anything.

I think you should go for it. It's the 21st century and those pesky heteronormative ideals of the past are long dead. You could even ask him out if you wanted to!

Thanks for the help! I'll go for it... Now my 2nd problem: how does one do it?

>>4 I lived exactly the situation you describe, except that I'm the guy. So instead of giving suggestions, I'll just tell you what she did.

I was very shy, tended to flee any girl showing the least bit of interest in me, and about to leave the country to study abroad (in part to get rid of this shyness). She knew me before I knew her, and none of us had dated before. She got a common friend to introduce us during a party, and then we spent the rest of the evening talking about the usual (what kind of music each one liked, books, life in general, etc). The second time we met (at another party) she came straight to me and again we spent the whole evening talking to each other. It was so unsubtle that other friends started joking about it. But I guess I was so shy it could not have worked otherwise.

I think by now you get how things went. We met again at a friends meeting, and this time while kissing our good byes she "accidentally" missed my cheek and landed on my mouth. It was the first time this happened to me, and my hormones made such a riot that it took me hours to fall asleep that night.

From then on I "got it" that I was not indifferent to that girl, and so took things over. I asked her out and we started dating. I soon moved out of the country, and we had a long distance relationship for years, eventually married and 15 years later are still together, with a kid, etc.

I do not necessarily think that's the best way of doing things, or that it would work for you, but for us her brutal approach was exactly what I needed.
