My girlfriend and I r suckers when it comes 2 romance manga. Not only does it portrays the issues and situations when it comes to a love complexity between two people, but also illustrates the reflections that changes a person when they are in love. It makes me want to grasp onto the world more.
Anyways, some of my fav r Boys Be... Second Season, Love Hina, Hot Gimmick, Kare Kano, Midori no Hibi, I''s, and Suzuka. What about you guys?
Hana Kimi and Yubisaki Milk Tea are among my favorites right now... Both involve some cross dressing though, although it's plot driven, not fanservicey or anything.
MARS
I"s, Bitter Virgin
I'm REALLY NOT into cross-dressin' type of manga (maybe my gf will probably look into it), but I thought Bitter Virgin sounded interestin'. Anymore anyone can bring up plz?
Ugh too many to list but favorite is Kimagure Orange Road though slightly unrealistic.
>>6 DAMN!! I forgot 'bout dat manga/anime. Thankx 4 remindin' me. Anyways...I just pre-ordered "Be With You," but don't kno if it will b a fav in the upcomin' month. Just have 2 wait and see...
sora no manimani
that so sweet...
Sora no manimani is koudansya comic
afternoon comic.
Oh...I forgot to mention...Maison Ikkoku is a REALLY INTERESTING seinen manga to read if anyone is interested. This week, I bought the first and last volumes of the series, and hope to buy volumes 2-14 later on the year. The reason though that I did not buy all of them cause 1) I already bought presents for 2/14, and 2) I'm kinda broke. Oh well...gettin' Densha Otoko and Be With You soon.
Does Futari H qualify? It's a pretty believable story for the most part, plus it gives you sex scenes (and hints...)
love hina
Haven't read many. Midori no hibi was cute. Ai Kora. Karin. Bitter Virgin is a favorite. Girlfriends (Love Shoujo-ai)
You have to read Love Roma and Emma.
Karin and Emma...r u sure they r great romance mangas?
s/Karin/Chibi Vampire/
genshiken<<
naruto
gyo
Don't forget Furuba!!
I also agree with Ai Kora.
Hana yori dango is also one that should have a mention.
And cross dressing is always for Fan service. Even if it contributes to the plot. ^_^
Hana Yori Dango is amazing! It is the sweetest! ^O^!!
...naruto isn't romance btw.....
Densha Otoko <--A True Story from our 2ch friends..
Love Celeb
Desire Climax
D-ASH <--Sporty type..
densha otoko is a great one, just read it the other day
naruto IS romance
dont hate
male+male=also romance
its classic shounen ai
all the cute boys fight with each other
and have weird bonds they cant explain
they can stare at each other for...chapters...
and so on and so on
it is a romance manga.
Naruto is NOT romance...
There is not trace of any romance on that series...
Naruto is not shounen ai as much as I would love a SasukexNaruto pairing. It is also not romance, despite sakuraxnaruto hints, so Sakura can just go jump off a cliff.
Though.. Shounen ai is pure awesome and must be mentioned in the romance section!!
Earthian is most likely my fav romance manga
homosexual angels = win
I love Kamichama Karin and Kamichama Karin Chu. They looks so little but it's SOOO adorable! XD People need to read it.
And Densha Otoko is awesome too, I'm reading it currently, and that's how I found this site.
>>31
Densha Otoko has a page in the back that says, "GO TO 4-CH!!!"?
Well, I guess you just googled around. Welcome to this laidback forum. Enjoy the Personal Issues board, it's always good for some lulz.
Densha Otoko confuses me because there are, like, three different manga versions. I saw it randomly for $1 a volume in some bargain bin, so I picked up a set...I think the CMX version. I have no idea which the "best" version is.
>>31
Awesome, another Kamichama Karin fan!
Kazune's so awesome.
I've read the version of Densha Otoko currently on onemanga. I don't know who publishes the version on there, though.
You know, I just spent FIVE WHOLE MINUTES laughing my HEAD off at your self-imposed delusions regarding a certain popular SHOUNEN ACTION manga. It's delusional fangirls like you that make coming on 4ch worth it JUST to read what kind of ridiculous bullshit comes out of your minds next. Thank you, you really made my day. <3
Getting back on topic, my current faves as far as romance goes are:
~Ai Yori Aoshi
~FAKE
~Level-C
~Love Mode
~Kashimashi
~Densha Otoko
~Midori no Hibi
~Alone in my King's Harem
See? YOU I can stand. You have no delusions regarding Naruto.
By the by... ZabuHaku>SasuNaru IMHO. But then again, KakaIru could be fun, too~
But yeah. Naruto =/= Romance.
I wanna first thank you all for the contribution so far. I'm planning to show my gf this thread later, and she'll go nuts to research all these titles. So far, she's reading Love Hina, but she says she might jump into Shoujo like Kare Kano eventually.
By the way, I finished reading IO and Kare First Love...IO was CONFUSING and the ending was just bad...and Kare First Love kind of died out in the end.
In other words, I didn't like either one.
The next few romance manga I will read are:
* Parallel (A MUST READ!!)
* Ai-Ren
* Kimagure Orange Road (currently finishing)
Paradise Kiss is pretty good, too...
If you like tragic love stories, Socrates in Love is good. Voices of a Distant Star made me bawwwww a little as well...and then there's Saishuu Heiki Kanojo, published under Viz as Saikano.
I READ AND WATCHED Socrates in Love...the novel, the manga, and the movie. I haven't watched the TV series, but I have a feeling it won't be as great as the movie. The movie made me and my girlfriend CRY!! I'm sorry...I'm a guy, but sometimes, there are things like this that people can't resist a tragedy such like this.
I'm currently downloading "Hoshi no Koe" (a.k.a. Voices of a Distant Star)...I wonder if the manga will be more dramatic and heart-wrenching than the original anime.
As for Saishuu Heiki Kanojo, I think that will be hard to get at first. Looking it up at Borders and B&N is hard enough to find (it's available, but probably to a limit). Either I have to buy all 7 volumes or d/l the original (try to carefully read the Kana).
Manga library is building up...i'm happy!!
If you liked Socrates, you should download Taiyo no Uta. THAT made me cry like a GIRL. I believe it's both a dorama TV series and a movie, but I can't remember.
Glad you liked my recommendations.
Be With You is also quite good. I read both the manga and novel. Manga was a bit hard to follow, though. A little confusing.
>>36 Those are great romance ones. Some of my favorite ones. If you liked Parallel, read Pastel. Also by Tosihiko Kobayashi and more or less the same premise. I guess I'll watch Socrates in Love but I really like more happy ending romance manga/anime/movies.
>>41 I just read the first chapter again of Parallel...i'm having fun with it. I wonder when Pastel will be complete?
Pastel is one of my faves too. I also like Ichigo 100% and Suzuka. Suzuka's such a tsundere... XD
>>43 I HATED Ichigo 100% for one reason: Junpei chose the girl I DIDN'T WANT!! However, I loved Suzuka since I first came out...and I plan to read it again whenever I can open up my library again.
I just finished Ai-Ren, To Heart, and Hoshi no Koe...all in one day. Out of all of them...I liked Hoshi no Koe the most...
Ai-Ren was heart-wrenching...but it wasn't enough to put me to tears. I enjoyed the lessons, though, it taught when approaching life or death.
To Heart...was A LOT better than the anime (in my opinion)...especially when the relationship between Akari and Hiroyuki was more clear and fulfilled a graceful ending.
Hoshi no Koe...same thing. The anime left me wondering "is there ever hope for these two?" However, this manga changed everything. You might lose a loved one...but no matter how much some people can try to forget...there will be people who will continue to cling to their love...and probably be able to be reunited with them eventually. This story was about hope...and I enjoyed it to the end.
KOR and Parallel is still in progress...and I need to read "Be With You" (novel) eventually. Oh...I also need to buy that novel for my okaa-san for Mother's Day...my girlfriend suggested it.
I LOVE SALAD DAYS NOW!!
I finished it just now (should of studied more...but fuck that). I'm reading it again this summer...it makes me sad that I'm going to graduate from college and moving onto the workforce.
MOST shounen friendly romance manga like Ichigo 100%[or Suzuka] is pure crap ... big breasts, small uniforms, girls not aware of how fuckable they look, nerdylooserguy can choose among the 5-10? best looking girls in school[japan?]
its horrible shitfuckcrap its not even comedy
love hina can get away with it coz its FUNNY
bah
>>45 so...?you have to stop reading comics just bcoz u work?
hmm interesting
u got more money
and if ur stupid and actually have to put down lots of time TO BEAT THE INFO into ur head
u now have mostlikely more freetime to spend on comics
if it makes you happy READ ur comix lolz
[its late lol so this might not make sence at all]
Can't believe no one has mentioned Living Game yet, it was pretty good and believavble love story. Emma, Kare kano and furuba to some extent, until it morphed into a horrible whinefeast.
>>47
I read the first two or so chapters of Living Game, but then I got tired of it dragging things out...hmmm, I think the moment was, when the girl visits her hometown, and the guy sees her with another guy who he assumes to be her "home-town boyfriend."
Maybe it's because I'm a male and I like my romances straight-forward and honest. But I don't like long-running shounen either.
I'd say Living Game is more interesting as a sociological portrayal of the times, the old man and the housing issues and the kind yakuza...than as a romance. A comic always gets big points for doing multiple things at the same time. Utilitarian style, just like Gunslinger Girl is a deep drama and a moe-fest at the same time.
i loved the suzuka manga. i would easily recommend it as long as you have the patience to read through it completely, because honestly it's a little generic in the beginning and it's pretty long (18vol)
for a light read, Parallel would be good.
ichigo 100% was fun but it really only picked up after the middle and though i'm a big fan of the manga i, personally, didn't like the ending
personally, my kind of manga though is saikano but it's not easy to recommend, it's pretty heavy
eh? Does Densha Otoko still qualify??? ^^
Pastel is good. Although Suzuka is good too, it's just that I did'nt expect the ending to be like that!
Oh yeah. Do any of you know The Gacha Gacha series? The two arcs are great. Although the first arc's story is more good than the second. All in all, it was one great manga. The Secret Arc is coming to and end by the way.
Another one I like is Yume De Aetara! An old manga that still has an impact to the heart! The manga artwork is like Love Hina, by the way^^. Did I mention that the Protagonist looks like Nobita?? Imagine Nobita, 10 years from his age^^. A must read manga for those who like "Romance" ^^
Hmmm
My faves are
Hana Kimi
Kare Kano
Skip Beat
Full Moon wo Sagashite
Pita-Ten
Chrono Crusade
>__< aah there's so many more but why can't i think of any right now??
Oh! Welcome to the NHK too..
Oh yes, Welcome to the NHK. That's what I need, escape from real life by watching an anime which portrays something almost exactly the same as real life.
Power! I really like the works of seino shizuru. :)
My favourites are:
Maison Ikkoku
Yume de Aetara
Ichigo 100%
Suzuka
Urusei Yatsura
Living Game
Love Roma
and of course Densha Otoko
I'm currently reading Chibi Vampire, which is getting really good!!!! Also Rosario+Vampire is good.
Huzzah for Densha Otoko! ^^ I just got done watching the film they made of it. Such an awesome story. sigh S'what got me inspired to find a site such as this. Heh. ^^
Ya me too dude ^^ that's I found this place
Hana-Kimi is awesome!!!
hmmm why can't i think of any right now...
oh Kou kou debut, kamisama kazoku, lovely complex, rosario to vampire... welcome to the NHK, tokyo crazy paradise
ummmmm.....
Love*Com
High School Debut
Sand Chronicles
Here with Me
Mars
Nana (kinda in a wierd wierd drama way)
While Rosario+Vampire is a an alright manga, it hardly qualifies as romance. More harem than anything, what with the gratuitous amounts of fan service.
One manga I would suggest that hasn't been posted would be Yume de Aetara. It was in Business Jump but it's balances comedy and romance pretty well. It's a refreshing to see romance play out that doesn't take place in high school and its interesting to see the hardships a salary man goes through just for love.
>>61 I was going to mention Yume de Aetara. I agree completely with the nice mix of romance and comedy.
BOkura ga Ita is a good love story
Chibi Vampire, I've been reading it ever since it came out. The anime Karin was really good, but it's different from the manga. The manga is so interesting!!!!
o me gosh ok heres the ones i read
Love master
High school Debt
Beauty pop
tokoyo mew mew
vampire knight
Kamichama Karin
Kanon
ARISA
(i forgot how to spell it lol whatever)
ect.... i cant think of no more right now so bye bye ^^
Hi again...if anyone is paying attention here!
I'm currently reading Suzuka again, and I'm starting to understand the difference between high school romance and "adult" romance (as in...stop acting like fucking kids).
I haven't continued on Pastel in a while, but I'm actually interested in this new manga "Kimi wo Iru Machi (The Town Where You Live)" written by the same author of "Suzuka." Same HS shit, but I like it only because it reminds me of my own youth.
Otherwise...haven't found any others lately. Bitter Virgin is on my list...but i'm not sure if I'll like it or not. I finished Yume de Aetara (If I can see you in my dreams) and it makes me wonder why such nice guys will do ANYTHING for a woman that seems at first "unattainable." I also finished Emma...but I was disappointed at the end. Yes, we understand other people want the spotlight...but the story is about EMMA for God's sake.
BTW, as much as Naruto has some love moments, (to the people who think it's a romance...) IT IS NOT ONE!! Sakura lied about liking Naruto, and although Hinata sacrificed herself to help him...i don't think we're going to see any mature advancements. Focus people...
Haven't read many romance manga...
However, ones that I really enjoyed and got addicted to are:
'Hanasakeru Seishounen' (花咲ける青少年). I forgot how many volumes there are, but not too long ago all vols were compiled into 6 'collectors edition' volumes.
I'm also reading a manga (based on original novels) called Toshokan Sensou Love & War (図書館戦争LOVE&WAR) (it's like a shoujo manga version - there's a shounen manga one called Toshokan Sensou Spitfire!). Volume 5 of LOVE&WAR was released in Jan IIRC.
Anyway, both are really good imo :)
Tomoyo After
Watashi no Messiah(Does that count?)
Watashi no Tamura Kun
Yandere Kanojo
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
I just finished Suzuka for the second time. I just love that series.
if you get a chance, look up "Half Half" on mangafox.com. It's not explicitly "romance," but what one would do for love and life explains a lot in an one-shot
Solanin is the greatest romance manga.
