what's OEL manga stand for? If you don't know it's Original English-language manga.
Anyone else here hate OEL manga? I do and I wish they never made it. I think Manga should just be made in Japan or Korea. I hate the ugly graphics that they have in OEL.
Not only is it ugly but they make the manga page even more unbearable is some of the OEL manga artist just have to outline every single main character just so that they can look more noticable and that they pop out from the annoying over drawn, over crowded, over toned (is that even a word?)background! The whole page just practicaly bleeds with different gray-scale tones! It's not the standard black and white with a little gray to show shadows manga page. oh no, the whole page is F*&#@!G gray!
I'm an aspiring manga artist. But I'm not Japanese, or Korean. So what should I do? Nothing? Doesn't sound very interesting. I didn't choose manga because I think it's cool or anything, I choose it because I'm inspired by the manga style, as well as Japanese culture. I'm glad OEL manga exist - in Japan, manga wasn't popular and didn't earn mangaka much money before Osamu Tezuka - the God of manga - entered the picture; there hadn't been any good manga before he introduced his work, which jumpstarted the manga world and inspired mangaka all over Japan. It's the same in the OEL manga industry, once someone comes forth a truly good story, hopefully OEL manga will start to get good. The ability to create a story isn't limited to the Japanese, thinking so is just bias.
It's shit.
I don't mind the more gag-based OEL manga (in my opinion, it can still be called manga if the page size/format differs from the default Western comic book), but decent serious, story-based manga are a very rare breed in the OEL market. Especially if you care about well-drawn works.
Shit.
whats korean manga??

If you want to be a manga artist but you're not Japanese or Korean, it's really a simply solution. Just fucking make it a graphic novel with "manga style" art.
Do any of you like to draw Manga style?
I love it, and frankly, I think it's sort of like an addiction...
When I'm bored in class, I just doodle and it turns into an anime character.. xD
I started when I was in fourth grade and then it gradually got better. Of course, I'm not as good as pros yet, but I'm getting closer everyday! >__< just practicing is all I do. I wish they taught this style in art class, but unfortunately, I could not find any Art studios that teach this style, so I've had to teach myself. :/
So what about you guys?
Yeah I do, it sucks I can't draw anything else other than manga style. When I try to draw people more realistically I screw up and give them those manga eyes ffffff.
If you want to do more realistic faces, draw at a larger scale than you usually do, that will offset your reflex to do manga eyes.
After that you'll learn and be able to do it at any scale.
I like drawing in manga style, I've also done life drawing and realistic paintings and whatnot. Just enjoying drawing is the most important thing
O my gosh i dont know what to do i liked anime all my life but started to draw last year :[ Is there any website u can segeust that will get it better it still looks the same when i started and some things it looks like a copie and some not please answer thank u! :]
Once I started drawing manga style, I got really into it. Then a year later, I tried drawing more realistically and it came out like manga style no matter how much I tried to alter the eyes, facial structure, etc.
It's freaky how an art style can do this.
But overall, I like drawing manga style and always doodle on the side of my page at school.
I hate my drawing style... Since I slouch in my chair at school, all the facial features and their waist is all Streeacched out so you have to look at them at an angle. I'm not very creative on what to draw so all my characters come out manga-like. Stil, people in my class were like,"You draw amazing" and I say in my head, Are they crazy? I'm horrible!
I study other mangakas' styles and see what sets them apart from me and other artists. Manga is nice because for me, it helps you relax... -w-
I like drawing,too.
In my country, japan, there are many friends who are good at drawing.
So I look at their illusts or show own one each other.
Sorry I'm not good at English.(´・ω・)

no such thing as manga style!
Just volumes one and two. Both were pretty good. Vol two made me soo sad though, but it was still literary quality. Have you ever read it? What did you think of it?
Alita is like my favorite manga. I can really see why James Cameron wants to make a movie trilogy out of it. I don't really have a preference for transhumanism works, but I could read Alita wonder about herself all day.
The sequel Last Order is pretty good too, though it retcons the original ending (Author was depressed, so he ended Alita a lot quicker than he originally planned). Last Order is currently in the middle of what I can only say is a parody of shounen tournament arcs.
You've peaked my interest, I'll give it a read.
It is going to have new full color artworks and "remastered story pages." I'm pretty happy about it. It's at a fair price too. I will be picking up a copy. Will you?

Sweet.
Hey guys have you herd of black butler it is AWESOME!!!! so check it guys on google or somthing ...lol
I have read through the first three volumes at a friends house. I liked it well enough. What was funny was that the same day I finished reading her copies of it it was the day of Halloween and we went to Salem Mass to see their celebrations. And saw a Ceil Phantomhive cosplayer. On the same day. She was way spacey though. She did not even notice me right in front of her when I was completing her cosplay.
Anyway, yeah Black Butler is interesting, even if the premise is cliche and all of the characters and relationships between the characters are total fujoshi bait. It's not on my top ten list of managa, but I'd still recommend it.
It is my new favorite manga. It is so full of badass and awesomeness your eyes will cum after reading it. I truely recommend this to everyone.
COME ON MEN HAVE NONE OF YOU READ THIS?
I'm currently still reading it. I also like it so far.
Awar for best character design.
Is there going to be a a squel? It seems like it ends with Zoichi ready for another quest.
no wat's it about? show a pic of the cover
Del Rey got Mushishi!
They also got the Kiseijuu/Parasyte widebans!
Humanity prevails!!
>>10 "(Plus, ADV manga keeps dropping stuff Aria, loki ragnarok, gamerz heaven, tactics >_>)"
All those series sucked except for Aria anyways! We only got slightly screwed by ADV!!
Yotsuba& and Gunslinger Girl are both very popular series, yet they pretty much got dropped too.

Yotsuba& is still getting releases albeit really fucking slow.
It was dead for a while, they just resurrected its decomposing corpse. If they manage to release vol 5, maybe I'll start holding some small sliver of hope for it.
Yeah, next volume of Yotsuba is scheduled for a July release. I think Gunslinger Girl is set for a release pretty soon too.

I've heard that Tokyopop is going to pick up the prequel to Aria, called Aqua.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2006-07-03/tokyopop-manga-license
But I don't know if anyone will pick up Aria. Maybe once Aqua gets going, and if people like it, they'll do something about Aria...
I hope so. I really loved (and still love) that series.
Where would be the cheapst place to buy all the volumes? I once saw a book that looked like it was more than one volume in one book, but I did not get a good look at it. I saw it at a Barns and Nobel store.

Look at this! I know it's from 2009 but I'm just now hearing about it. Is this seriously a thing now? I don't even like loli manga or loli fanservice, in fact I dislike it. But this is really fucked up!
Yeah I heard about that...not cool.
=insert normal loli isn't bad arguments here=
Depends on which country you're in. In the USA, you are protected by the supreme court ruling Ashcroft vs. Free Speech Coalition (2002). In Britain and other oppressive regimes, it most definitely is illegal as will soon be all forms of hate speech including the use of the word "gypsy" even when referring to gypsies, nudity including bare ankles, insults to the monarch, using "they're" when you're supposed to use "their", "writing too loudly", and referring to autumn as "fall."
I do remember that in the past that manga often went out of its way to declare that a character was over 18 even when it was clear they weren't. What happens in these cases where a character declares herself to be 18 and then involves herself in adult situations? Do they have experts say that this DRAWN image depicts someone under 18?? This isn't just an assault on the freedom of speech but an assault on the defining line between fantasy and reality.
To add to >3's post. In the US, it can be used to increase your sentence if you're caught with CP, but otherwise the federales don't care.
Also never bring your laptop over say the Canadian border. The border patrol is allowed to make backups of your hard drive if they feel like it, so they can charge you with something in the future.
> you are protected by the supreme court ruling Ashcroft vs. Free Speech Coalition (2002)
That case led to the PROTECT Act, which enacted 18 USC § 1466A.

I liked it. It's sort of like a very long distance relationship between two friends who then later realise they love each other but only have they are a few dozen light years apart. It's sad, but nice. And it's not one of these managas that goes on for fucking ever. It's one book you can probably read in less than a hour. And its nice. Give it a read.
It's nice.
