illustrated by Hiroya Oku.
For every country, there is a black ball named Gantz, it transport the recently dead people into a small room on a ‘mission day’ (any normal person can enter the room after dying, such as getting run over by a vehicle, murdered, accident, disease, old age, even cancer will be cured once in the room) which all the participants will be forced to hunt and kill aliens, each mission usually much stronger than the last. They are given weapons of new technology and a suit which enhances their physical strength, endurance, power, agility and protect from harm against most blunt attacks but most new players are not aware of this, as rules or any knowledge will not be given out and must learn through trail and error which is often deadly or through a veteran that is willing to explain the situation.
If the player survives the mission, they will be able to be set free for a certain amount of time before the next calling of a mission. The players do not know that each person has a bomb implanted inside their brain after the teleportation to the room with the black ball, the bomb will be trigger whenever on a mission the player crosses over past the set location of the boundaries , which is similar to the Japanese film ‘ Battle Royale’ or tell anyone who is not involved with Gantz, this is simply to hide the presents and keep Gantz a secret.
During a mission, they are send outside of the room with the black ball while during these missions they might encounter normal humans not involved with the game, those people can not see or hear them until the mission is over and are still alive after the mission.
Any fatal injury, loss of blood or limbs will return after the transportation back to the room (arm/ legs cut off) if still alive and breathing which they will be given ‘points’ to reach 100 points then to use, the amount of points given depend on how many and how strong the aliens the player as killed, once 100 points have been achieved a list of 3 option will be given.
Further note:
As we all know, humans have hearing range is between 20Hz and 20,000Hz
human eye can see respond to wavelength in air from 380 to 750 nm
The Gantz technology known as the ‘controller’ is a radar device used for searching aliens which can also be used to turn humans invisible to the naked eye by changing frequencies.
aliens live in ranges that is invisible to normal human senses and only when Gantz teleports a person to a mission, Gantz changes the frequency along with them.
The veteran Nishi claims that once the catastrophe time countdown reaches zero, there will be destruction that ’Power’ and ’Authority’ will be gone and chaos will start, no rules, no law and order. Nuclear war will start, as Humans not involved with Gantz have seen the deadly Aliens and that Aliens have and will become visible to the human eye on the day of Catastrophe (Apocalypse/ End of the world/ Doomsday); Humans will use Nuclear weapons to fight against the Alien Invasion rather than the Gantz Technology.
Vampires seem to be ally with the Allies, or at least in good terms with them.
The Vampires call the Gantz members ‘Hunters’ and that the Vampires are helping the aliens to get rid of the worlds secret defence (Gantz)

I only watch Naruto so i don't care!! HENGE! BAKA! NO JUTSU! You should watch Naruto, it's really cool. NO not the DUB! EEEW, the japanese ofcourse! OHYEAH BLEACH TOO! ITS LIKE DBZ BUT MUCH COOLER. SHINIGAMI!!
I seen Naruto a few times, and it bored me, its too much of a cartoon base rather than anime to me.
nothing wrong with dub or subs, why even argue about that? its just preferance
bleach is good but the story doesnt seem so exciting, after all, we are waiting for Aizen and the follow battles to come with it.
One Piece is a great Manga, its actaully got depth and feeling to it, but lacks substance compared to Gantz.
As for DBZ, thats too simply with the story..look how once a strong enemy comes, it takes them all they have to defeat them, then a few more arcs, there is a new enemy which is much stronger than the previous and make the previous look like nothing and in terms of power, it is based on 'power levels' enemies with stronger power levels coming one after another, is there any change?
>>3 man i'm sorry, i was just messing with you..you know sarcastic shit.(look at my name: When Narutotard Die i Cry:p)
Shonen < Seinen, it's just the way it is;). Honestly i fucking hate Bleach, barely tolerating naruto (i just wanna see the end) and i def like One Piece the best among these three (Hunter X Hunter is still king though, prob my favo).
Db&Dbz is def simple, but it's something i love because i grew up on it (in the 90's dub french, how about that^^), same with Saint Saiya (chevaliers du zodiaque) and all the others.
i read Gantz in onemanga before it has been blocked by the publisher....
i only read it untill they went to osaka and hunting 100 pointers but i haven't finished read the manga and it's gone from onemanga...
could you please tell me where i could read it online?
which arc/ chapter are you on?
you really need to catch up with it, though u could take your time cos it comes out every 2 weeks, but its alway a mystery and gives food for thought every chapter it reveals.
very exciting how it turns out as anyone can die, even the main characters, not like how dbz, bleach, naturo, one piece where they will be injured very badly but will alway survive to fight again.
not to mention this current arc in gantz has surpassed nuri now, and that was a near impossible alien to kill, since all the 'pros' were massacred and are way stronger than the main characters.
Gantz isnt like DBZ, its like real life, no matter how strong u are, u can die from making a simple mistake and that even 'pros' can die. having the most experience only means you have a better survival rate, there is no guarantee in winning.
its like being in a war, even the best soldiercan die from a few bullets from other soldiers, its just he will have a better survival rate.

I don't remember well, but I guess if I start reading it again I'll restart from the beginning as I always do.
And yeah, one of the things I liked the most was that feeling of impeding doom on every character.
>>8
ya, its quite a dark story, and its based in real life.
if you have the chance to even compare the pictures in the chapters to the actaully citys, it is exactly the same, right down to the last detail...I been on this discussion forum and people have been showing the similarities.
people have been using google world map to get the exact pin-point picture of the location in Gantz, and its the same apart from the odd car or there.
I dont recommend reading from the start until you read it already up to the latest for context reference. the plot is expanding way bigger than the beginning chapters.
the 1st arc was about joining the game as a starter, with no idea how to survive, and those aliens are just 1pt.
now you get aliens up to 40pt-100pt. and its just getting harder. not to mention the plot is still pretty much a mystery, we are now in 2nd arc and we still dont know why Gantz was created, or why this human vs aliens is going on and what does it all mean and so on, so many questions.
Gantz chapters, they give us more questions to think than answers.
Gantz? Masterpice? That no one's heard of?
Huh...
In which world are you living, exactly?
Uh....Apparently Earth, not exactly no one has heard of it, just not alot of people has heard of it, but it has a seriously good storyline that is very unique compared to those mainstream manga and is really realistic.
The reason people don't know Gantz well is that it doesnt go for the same market that naruto and bleach do. You dont see nudity in naruto or bleach, but Gantz is heavy with nudity and gore etc.
To put it simple: ratio of anime watchers kids > adults, and its easier to market auxilery products to a kid market, thus more japs like the show, thus more non japs hear about it, and it gets translated and scanned.
Also damn those people who can't take anime or manga that is more serious like gantz or koi kaze. OTL
Sorry, but to me, Gantz is like the Naruto of Seinen. Seinen is never as mainstream, but I still think Gantz is one of the most popular (among foreign fans in particular), plus it's already been made into an anime. Uncensored and censored.
I still think it's very good, of course, but you shouldn't contrast it so much to Naruto because both are fairly alright (despite how much you hate Shonen Jump it is still one of the most competitive magazines) and both are fairly overrated.
I'm not really that fond of GANTZ. It just didn't really stick to me. I guess I just don't like that kind of seinen.
fuck gantz, i was totally into the show, then when I saw there was a manga I got super psyched. I kept up with it until i figured out that the idol bitch is going to try to revive a second kei. wtf. this nigger story is never going to fucking END GODDAMNIT.
Gantz is pretty good. I like the fact that nothing is ever explained and made clear, so you can always wonder about every aspect of it. It's so random it's charming in its own way. But maybe I'm biased... I tend to like "crazy" stuff, or stuff that doesn't make much sense, like Suehiro Maruo's or Junji Ito's stuff as well.
I'm reading Gantz as it gets published here in my country. Currently, we're on vol. 21, where they get transported to Osaka and only watch another team fight the aliens. Also, the fanservice in it is glorious.
BORING. I tried. I seriously did. But man... plot progression fail.
So some dead schmoes get recruited to fight invisible aliens IN SECRET. And they fight aliens of increasing difficulty on a 1-100 point scale. And after X number of years this manga has been running, they're still no closer to finding the true nature of the Gantz/One Piece/Nine-tailed Fox.
Sorry, but it actually does sound a lot like Naruto, DBZ, and the like.
Plus, if dead people can be revived to fight the aliens, why can't they be revived if they're killed while fighting the aliens?
>>19 , i also wondered why the players are not revived if killed while fighting the alien....
in my opinion, GANTZ is not much of a masterpiece( far from it, actually) I thing a great manga should have a decent number of chapters, one or two main characters ( not a whole army of characters! ) and most of all, when it ends it ends ( by the time you get to the last chapter you understand what went on and you get the feeling of closure)
GANTZ is simply pne of the best mangas out there.I can't wait for the phase 3.
the reason the players aren't revived is that if they die , then they're certainly judged "not good enought" to continue the game. Also this whole army of characters isn't so bad , 'cause it gives a feeling of reality : how'd you fight a whole army of aliens without a bug bunch of ppl ?
anyway , GANTZ ROCKS :D does anyone knows WHEN will the next volume be published ? I heard the phase 3 would begin in 3 month but that was 5 month ago i think ... -_-''
Each chapter takes approximately fifteen seconds to read, and it is not very worthwhile. Abort/Retry/Ignore
GANTZ ROCKS!!!
THIS IS AMAZING!
Gantz is good, but only with marathon sessions. Reading one chapter maybe per week... is boring.
ye, it is too slow to read only 1 chapter at a time. Most of the panels are just the same, and the action goes on VEEEEEEEEERY SLOOOOOOOOWLY because near nothing happens on a chapter
One of the most innovative "cliche" plot i've ever knew. There's already lots of manga/film concept based on
"survival of mankind", "men versus aliens" or whatsoever,
independence day, war of the world, you named it.
but in gantz, it have many interesting elements and unexpected events going in the storyline, it's sure quite deep and philosophical the more it advance, for example, the way gantz reviving dead people is criticized by one of the member to devaluating human lives. and makes us realize how precious life could be. cuz we know in reality that there is no such thing.
the downside is, the plot progress quite slowly, and need some thinking and knowledge about many philosophical elements in this manga. Surely it attracts people who've interested about human's behavior, civilization and mysteries of the world and universe.
but there are people who see's this philoshopical elements as nonsense, preferring in every chapter to see many actions, cool heroes/heroine to kicking-punching-superhuman skills and expect the only main protagonist that invincible and be "the savior" of the story. like they're the chosen one (expert in some skills, or talented individuals).
So to them this manga gonna drop dead. because it doesn't have real main hero thing, every surviving members is the protagonist with their very own background story. and some of it isn't cool,( many average people). but unique in someways. That makes it more realistic and kinda makes us think it could be us in their shoes.
so it depends of that two kind of perspective to see whether it is good or not. for me it's very good.
