I don't really get what the software is for, but afais, you only learn to remember where each note on the fretboard is. I don't really get how they can promise to become a 'genius' guitar player in less than 60 minutes, because (in my opinion) that's theoretically and above all theortically impossible.

So, I hear what you're sayin'... Some people think it's a rip off and some don't. I think the sales pitch of the site is cheesy, but he's got a point. If you can memorize the entire fret board - even in a week - you do have an advantage. I started taking lessons shortly before getting the program and it helped me immensely. It was something I did in my spare time, for the hell of it. It was only $30 - cost of one lesson for me - and my bass instructor was impressed with the results. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
But that's not to say I believe he's a genius inventor or that I wouldn't have tried it free if I knew how! :)

heres the "secret"....the notes on a guitar follow a patern. A, D, G, C, F, A#, D#, G#, C#, F#, B, E, and back to A. This pattern goes vertically down the fret board. Make up a story to memorize it. Just Remember that at the 5th string you need to take the note before what the pattern would suggest. ie. a D, instead of a D#. There you have it. Old Mike here managed to draw it out over a five page 1.8 meg flash file. What a scam. My condolenses to anyone who paid for it.

I'm worried about the mental capacity of people who expect to learn a musical instrument in less than a few years. YOU DUMB ASSES . . . Some software and books say they can teach you to play it hours or days, but the truth is all they teach you is one tune (and baddly). There is a bid difference between playing a few tunes even, and playing the guitar. I know lots of people who can play lots of bits of tunes well but can't hold a whole tune in a bucket. Oh, I forgot to mention I've been teaching guitar for over 20 years and I'm the founder of a guitar academy.
Many otherwise normal people with normal mental capacities from time to time act impulsively based on wishful thinking, think "O well, what can I loose, in the worst case only about 30 dollars?" and will try it. All those 30 bucks together will generate quite some money for that Mike, with which he can leave ads with links to his website in all sorts of places on the Internet. Enter the search string "fret2fret" in google and see the hundreds and hundreds of places where he links to his site. I estimate he may already have earned tons this way! In my previous two messages I was K.idding of course, but in this one I am dead serious! Cheers.

come on... i mean seriously. if you want to be good at any kind of insterment it takes more than knowing how to get a series of notes out. the years of practace give you personal Technique that you juest cant get out of a method like this. even if you had copleat control over the instrament and could play any kind of sheet music you are not playing music, as one of my musical thery professers said

fret2fret is not a method IMHO. It is just one single mnemonic to learn that one single pattern that Fumble Fingers described above by heart. That's the balloon, the rest is the air in the balloon.
I do think that Mike or his copywriter must have a sense of humor, you can credit him for that at least.
don't know if anyone has thought of this: i ya can be I rock god by just memorizing the fretboard, than you could do the same with any other instrument.
you will aslo be a violon-god cuz it has frets... and what if you learnt to memorize each notes on the piano? would you be a chopin-like-god-pianiste-in-45-min?
in conclusion: if his trick is so f**cking good, it would work for any instruments. so therefore in one day or two you could master all instruments... :)

But after I downloaded the "program", I had to laugh.
It's more like a PowerPoint presentation, consisting of 6 pages. This is not worth any money at all.
I've just started playing guitar and it's tempting when I found the fret2fret website but it sounded so awful; seriously if a guy can fill that much space with just basically saying'you will be a master guitarist with this' then he must talk shite.

I am a professional musician (violinist, composer, conductor) and a musical theory teacher and I have been practicing my instrument for over 20 years for 4 to 6 hours a day and I was listening to a live recording sent to me by the record company that is planning to market it and I was disgusted hearing myself at times on this cd; thus: practice, practice, practice for many more years to come :) If you want some solid theory explanations visit http://www.jazzcenter.org . It is totally free and most of the stuff is good. I wrote it like when I was eightteen and there are some things that need to be changed but it can still help people who want to know about some basic music theory!

Thanks, I went and got it for free. I read the story, went up and down the fret board a few times and now I know what notes I am playing. It works! The story is so wacky it has to work and I find myself laughing as I realize what note I am on.
However, it certainly does not give you the ability to play. You still have to know your scales and put in lots of practice. But even knowing scales, I have found myself getting lost on the fretboard many times. Especially when trying to move around too much. This tool will help to find the right note to start on wherever I am at on the fretboard.
So, his advertisement is very missleading in that he says you will be able to play any song you want and be able to know that you are playing the right notes. Knowing what notes you are playing does not make them right.
So I think it's a bit of a rip off if you pay the $30 for it. Then on the other hand I guess you have to look at it like you are buying the free guitar tab that he sends to you. Assuming he sends it and it is worth anything. I've seen a lot of bad guitar tab before.
