Venetian Snares

Been listening to a bit of Venetian Snares lately. It's rather... different, let's say, to other electronic music I've heard. The only thing I can compare it to would be the V/VM "helpaphextwin" rehash of a bunch of Aphex Twin's tracks, except not like it at all.

Imagine, if you will, an "i care because you do"-time Richard D. James and the guys from Autechre in a locked room with all the amphetamines, mushrooms, alcohol and downers they can consume. That'd be a pretty good approximation.

I suppose I still prefer powernoise to this; at least powernoise has (well in general!) a rhythm you can keep up with. Maybe I just need a few more listens.

  • Richard D. James Album

    • Probably most enjoyable and easiest to simply sit down to and listen. Has a lot of good tracks to just listen to anytime.

Somewhat less-known compared to most artists named in this thread, but I've liked Somatic Responses for awhile. They're kind of IDM-ish, sometimes more rhythmic noise. Their tracks are really complex and intricate, sometimes interrupted with slow beautiful moments of piercing chords. I'd especially recommend their double album "Adverts" from 2003.

As for Aphex Twin himself, most of his music tends to bore me. I mentioned Autechre to a friend the other day, and he said, "They're like Aphex Twin but not boring?", and I pretty much had to agree with that. (from what little Autechre I've heard, mind you)
