Chiptunes [8BIT][NES][GB] (8)

I've been interested in chiptunes for quite some time, but the method of their creation has always eluded me. I know there's plenty of ways to do it, but that's a little intimidating, to be quite honest. I don't want to invest my time in something only to find out it's not the sound I'm looking for...

Basically, I'm looking for the impossible: Something free, easy to use, that makes authentic sounds, and can make recordings obviously.

I would really appreciate some direction.

Any tracker with 8bit soundbanks.

FruityLoops has a very nice NES soundbank, if I remember correctly, although I'm not a huge fan of FL. Offically, FL isn't free, but hey, we're on the internets. There are good trackers (ie Modplug Tracker), for which you can probably find "chiptune" samples too.

Of course you're not really programming said chips to make your very own sound, but that will be enough in most of the cases you'd encounter.

hmm, interesting. Thanks >>2 for pointing me to modplug

That's kinda the problem i run into though, there supposedly a large number of these plugins, samples, and Soundbanks, but i can never find them, or ones that work with what I've got.

Sorry if I seem a little retarded, but does anyone out there know of any sites with lots of these plugins (preferrably ones that can work with modplug) or know of some good 8-bit packs?

what the fuck? FL Studio has 0 NES sounds

I mean you can GET them but making chiptunes in FL Studio is kind of dumb. I am seconding modplug though.

I didn't mean it is in the default package, just that the soundbank exists and works quite well.

Also, http://www.ymck.net/english/download/index.html
Straight from YMCK's website, which is an awesome Jazz/Chiptune band.
