Just don't buy the cheapest one in the shop and maybe check the reviews on the internet. Otherwise, the differences between headphones are almost unhearable. I bought mine for ~$8 (Philips SHP1900) and it sounds good enough to me.

In case you were serious about the Dre's Beats. They're actually really good headphones, just overpriced and fragile.

But the trick to picking headphones is find reviews by someone who is spergy about them, but not crazy audiophile levels. e.g. no rocks taped to the cords. Like the guy in my link field.
