You've probably already heard about it, and maybe even tried it...
http://base.google.com
But I don't really get it. It doesn't really seem to have any useful application that I can find, at least thus far.
People keep saying it's meant to be some sort of replacement for craigslist and eBay, but I see no idea how. Those two sites are very specifically designed for what they do, whereas this is just kinda all over the place. Try searching for a "watch;" most of the hits on the first page of results are related to watches, and none of them are even in the Google Base; all of them are outside links. Try to refine the search by clicking "product type," and you can choose one of "time & weather," "electronics," "women's jewelry," and the ever-helpful "other," among others. What a mess.
So has anyone found a use for this to justify its existence yet?
>most of the hits on the first page of results aren't related to watches
fixed
I was trying to figure out a way to turn it into a message board.
But I got distracted. Idea for stealing!
maybe that's the point of it, maybe there isn't a use for it yet, google is just providing a framework and waiting for people to come out with some novel uses for their technology, sort of like what happened to google maps + associated mashups
But the difference is that Google Maps is/was useful at best and interesting at worst from the get-go, even before people started tweaking with the data.
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO GOOGLE
what you say!
Somebody set up us the memes
This joke is completely original and has definitely not been seen anywhere else on the internet ever.
