Apparently Jelsoft, the vendor of the vBulletin web-BBS software, has revoked Hongfire's vBulletin license, citing "morally depraved" content (read: loli) which they do not consider "to be an appropriate association with the Jelsoft Brand".
Well, it's just too bad they chose to integrate their entire website with a shitty piece of propietary forum software, isn't it?
Indeed.
Hongfire just got OWNED, which, while not nice, is still kind of funny. Scary, tho, that jelsoft can just nix licenses like this. Doesn't make me want to buy stuff from them.
"From time to time, Jelsoft may inspect your registration integrity. This will be done without collecting any information whatsoever about your server or your users. The only information verified will be your licence number and the domain on which the software is run."

Seriously.
The whole thing is a parade of patheticness.
You've got your moral crusader lawyer, you've got your whining teenager lolicon otaku, and your shitty propietary software company.
I can't take ANY stand here without supporting SOMEBODY who's a pathetic piece of shit!

Take the lulz stand: Laugh. At all of them.

It's been a while, but something tells me that Jelsoft's position isn't on solid legal ground. You can't chose whom you sell to.
Software licenses are a legal abortion. They're created in an attempt to cherry-pick the most amenable attributes of both sale and contract.
Well, Hongfire's back now. It seems that someone Digg'd the story, and Jelsoft was soon besieged by a mob of panicking vBulletin customers asking since when had Jelsoft reserved the right to revoke licenses based on board content or subject matter. I imagine their licensing/piracy lawyer who sent the nastygram to Hongfire, Mr. Spinks, won't be getting too big a Christmas bonus this year.
Still, if I were Hongfire, I'd be seriously looking into Free Software alternatives to vBulletin at this point. Once bitten, twice shy and all that...

It seems that a whole bunch of admins decided to drop Jelsoft in a hurry. :)
I did a double take when the lawyer said that an EULA/AUD contract could override any law. I'm a complete layman and even I know they're still largely untested in court.
Happy Festivus, I guess. Somehow this reminds me of the Simpsons episode where workers at a fake vomit factory cheer when the power is restored after a blackout.
