Can't you disable signature display on those fancy pants forums?

3 Name: 404 - Name Not Found : 2007-01-16 09:54 ID:Heaven

Lol, internet dating.

4 Name: 404 - Name Not Found : 2007-01-16 16:37 ID:Heaven

I think they're called userbars or something. Basically just another ego feed.

This is why you don't even bother reading those forums.

Those are even more annoying than the horizontal user bars. The most annoying part though is how they all have conflicting colors and are lined up right against eachother.

vBulletin has something called "light mode". This is, in my opinion, about the best feature of the whole board software.

So... the best feature is the one that makes all the other features go away?

I'm pretty sure invision 2 has that feature as well, which is good, except for the fact that it's not free.

Jup, it is.

It cuts all the bullshit and shows only the important things.

Yes and many people like it that way! Though I like userbars.

Why do you like userbars? And don't pretend they let other people know about you, it's obviously related to some need you have yourself.

Well, in fact it tells other people a bit about you. Of course you could do the same with another form of signature. And I don't like people having 50 "cola-cola" / "mtv" userbars in their signature, thats just useless and annoying.
However, as i'm a Retro Gamer, I like people in Forums who use, for example, a "Sega Saturn" Userbar. You direclty know what they like to collect/play and stuff.
Its only useful in smaller communities I guess. When you are new and dont know everyone that good.

Isn't that what those 'profile' things are for?

16 Name: 404 - Name Not Found : 2007-01-21 02:12 ID:PM2WHKNF

Userbars like "Google user" or "Windows User" in fact do tell me something about that person.

It's telling me how boring that certain person must be.

This is colloquially known as the myspace effect.

I don't mind them. I mind it when a person has several dozen of them. Then it tells me you're stuck on yourself. Because I'm certainly not interested to know that you're a "Bathroom User". If you have a hobby, like building model cars or something, it's a good way to meet others with the same interests. If you put your gameercodes in your sig, I might challenge you at some point.

I lol'd, apparantly your feeding your ego now, and bitching over somthing so stupied.

Sorry, your attempt at "I know you are but what am I" makes no sense whatsoever.

Nobody looks at them. They're an eyesore. It's vanity, plain and simple. People desperately trying to have a personality online, which is out of place to begin with. Nobody cares what web browser you use, what fast food you eat, etc. If there's a thread about it, fine, reply. It's a useless waste of space, if I ran a forum, I'd ban for it. Sigs are okay because they blend in and are easy to ignore, which, of course, everyone does anyway.

If you like model cars, then browse a model car forum, that's a good way to meet people you like.

They're like bumper stickers. Ever see the guy with 10,000 of them? Nice to have him around at red lights or stuck in traffic, but otherwise it's an eyesore. The internet doesn't slow down every 5 minutes when you're reading someone with stupid tags at the bottom's post. Even if it did, they're not funny, witty or thought provoking.

Granted I'm guilty of having 2 bumper stickers. Well, technically they're both rear window stickers - a small NRA logo and a college parking permit.
