MySpace - Will It Become A Geocities? (27)

Will Myspace be "a thing of the past" in the next 3 years? I've never had a MySpace site (and I doubt I will ever have one) and I just don't understand why all of these people have one. Can anybody explain why they like MySpace so much? My little sister spends like her whole internet hours on MySpace.com.

Myspace became obsolete in 1999 when the first anonymous image board was created.

The evolution of personal webspace trends towards more limited customization.
If I never hear another embedded midi again in my life, it will be too soon.

With all the time that people spend on Myspace, I don't think it's going anywhere soon.
I also have a sister that uses Myspace. In fact, looking through her browsing history, it's usually the only site she visits.
I really don't understand the appeal of Myspace, but maybe that's because I've always been a bit anti-social anyway.
Anonymous posting > Everything else

I use it only because I'm lazy. Having a friends list where all I have to do is click on someone's picture to send them a message is easier than keeping track of several dozen email adresses.
Why people spend hours on there, I don't understand.

Myspace is a fad and will die out eventually.

Anon doesn't have friends. At least not me... ;_;

>At least I don't

What was I thinking

But anyway... I even had a fecesbook account. I figure using those "social" sites is a bit different for someone who isn't ronery

eh those sites will never die out completely. Myspace has already become a festering shit hole. Facebook seems to be doing well as long as they don't open the source for the web design. Myspace is just a mess of poorly designed profile sites and a great place for people to spam porn links, thats about it.

damn, you got a real problem with fatties...

usually someone that is so vehemently against something
is just overcompensating for an underlying
attraction to that something.

hey, nothing wrong with a little chubby- chasing.

wish it would. doubt it will.
i think the most important point would be what >>3 said; myspace is a way for people to be famous/attention whore. and you all know how much middle- and high-schoolers love to do that shit (not to mention gossip/drama). so i wouldn't rule it out that it might die out after something beats it at its own game, but that's about it.

Signed. The next fad (*chan sites) is already in full swing, which I think will be even more frustrating for the more "learnéd" web users like ourselves; previous fads have had that very aim in mind, to become well-known, thriving centres for everybody. However, *chan sites are the domain of embittered, lonely nerds who don't take kindly to fourteen year olds gaily traipsing their mucky e-shoes all over their intercarpets.

I am one of those embittered, lonely nerds.

It had sailor moon on it.

I had a Geocities page, it had Pokemon on it.
And it still exists! They haven't deleted it or anything. which suprised the hell out of me.
Its ezboard is gone though :((

I sure as hell hope that it does.

Myspace can be useful for checking out new bands you hear about elsewhere. They'll usually put their best four tracks up on the player, so it gives you a good summary of what they're like. Musicians also find it useful for networking and/or circlejerking.

this, absolutely
there are two things i use it for:
checking out bands
and
finding out about gigs/club nights/other events organised by people who are too lazy to maintain a list on a proper website
for non-musical matters i just use facebook or whatever.

I doubt that Myspace will be completly forgotten after all almost everyone I know has a profile on it. (except for me, never have never will)

Sites like these are a breeding ground for people posting links to porn sites and kids trying to act "mature".

I agree

This, right here. It's the only good thing that myspace has done, creating a central point for bands and venues to advertise.

24 Name: 404 - Name Not Found : 2008-07-13 09:37 ID:U3WbGfoG

I also only had one mostly for like >>19 said. later i deleted it anyway. only SNS i currently use are last.fm, mixi and a animu sns.

25 Name: 404 - Name Not Found : 2008-07-16 08:29 ID:Fk9Xuudt

>>19 and >>23 would've been right a few years ago, but all that was killed by spam. I think new bands seem to be using last.fm a bit though? There are still tracks being published on Myspace but I can't think of anyone who goes there.

I might be wrong though.

killed by spam? when?
about 99% of bands have a myspace that they use regularly. i see myspace urls on flyers, and bands at smaller gigs saying "check us out on myspace dot com slash whatthefuckever". i have never once seen last.fm or anything else other than myspace or the band's own dedicated website used in either of those contexts. i still find it far more useful than any other site to just get a taste of what any given band is like.

27 Name: 404 - Name Not Found : 2008-07-25 03:19 ID:n7Oax0oe

i never go on last.fm, i just use it to track myself.. >>26

WTF, i just checked my last.fm

http://www.last.fm/user/pale2hall

when did they re-design the site?!?!1
