At least 47 envelopes containing 10,000 yen and a letter have been found in restrooms of local government offices in Saitama and Akita prefectures, spokesmen of the local governments said.
In Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, a visitor at the city government office found nine of the envelopes at around noon Thursday in the men's restroom on the first floor. The visitor informed city government employees, and they informed police.
On the washi envelope that wrapped a 10,000 yen bill, the word hosha (token of gratitude) was written. The letter, written with a calligraphy brush, was addressed to "dear visitor who came today," and said, "Please use the enclosed bequest of 10,000 yen as a fund for your training."
Ten similar envelopes were found around the same time in the men's restroom on the first floor of the Saitama prefectural government office and the Saitama city government office, respectively. Both offices reported the incidents to the police.

Thirteen envelopes containing 10,000 yen bills with a total value of 1.3 million yen were found in mailboxes at a condominium in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, on Friday, police said.
A resident of the condominium contacted police after retrieving one of the cash-stuffed envelopes. The five-story condominium has 47 units, and brown envelopes containing the 10,000 yen bills were found in 13 of the mailboxes.
The police said they would treat the money as a lost-and-found item. As they spotted brown envelopes in other mailboxes from which mail had not been retrieved, they suspect the total amount of money left by the anonymous benefactor will increase.
The amount of money in the envelopes varied. One contained 120,000 yen, one 110,000 yen, 10 100,000 yen and one 70,000 yen. None of the envelopes were sealed, and nothing was written on them.

Do you think this guy (or guys) is just dumping cash before he offs himself? I should think that'd be pretty common in that case.
Whatever the reason, it's better than the guys last year dumping the money to garbage.
