Failing College - Failing Life (11)

It seems so hopeless now. I'm going on my third year. My gpa is so low. 2.2 something, I have an F on my records, a few D's, C minuses.

What can I do to improve myself? What motivates you to do well in your studies? Is there any hope for me? Should I even keep trying?

What motivates me is that I'm convinced this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, I love it and I cannot think of doing something else instead of this.

Ask yourself what you really want. Remember that part of alice in wonderland where she meets the Cheshire cat and asks him for advice where should she go and the cat asks back "where do you want to go?" to which she replies it doesn't matter as long as I get somewhere and the cat says then it doesn't matter where you go, any way will do.

tl;dr - Ask yourself where do you want to go and realise where you're now, then you'll see the path and what you need to do in order to get there.

Yeah, I have a similar problem, only I quit school when I started failing. Now I'm at home, and I don't know if I want to go back to school or try something else, and I'm not ready to be off working on my own. If I do go back to school, I'm not sure what I would study with sufficient interest to not get crappy grades at it.

It's hard when you don't know what you want to do. You can't apply effort on thin air.

Seconded. It's tough to be motivated without a focus.

Maybe take a leave of absence for a quarter, a semester, or, hell, even a year, OP. Right now, honestly, you're just wasting your parents' money, your own money, or putting yourself into debt. Do some charity work, find a job, take a vacation, study on your own. Any number of these things can inspire and motivate.

But really, get some practical experience in the field you're interested in, even if it means doing coffee runs and answering phones. If it's truly what you'd like to do with your life, that environment alone --seeing and interacting with people in the role you hope to attain-- should be motivation enough to get your shit together and work hard in school towards your goal. If not? Maybe it's time to change those goals. But there is absolutely no reason to be paying hefty university tuition if you're not getting anything out of it.

Hey, I am also currently in academic probation. I know what you are going through. There is a choice of taking a break and coming back to school or you can stay and school and do better this next year. I mean, I know I have said that I will do better again next year, but this time its a more serious situation. I fail out I have to go back home and get a job at a shopping mart or something stupid and go to community college which makes me stay in school longer. I don't want to do that because I have greater things lined up in my education and people I cannot let down, even myself I don't want to let down and give up.

Its all bad if you are not in school sometimes. If there is something better for you, then do it! What I suggest is that you stay in school and do better. I know you can do it because everyone has the potential. You must have wanted to go to college because you are in it. Maybe change your major to something else so that you are doing something you'll be happy in like >>2 said.

I just hope things start looking up for you and you should keep trying and not give up. YOU CAN DO IT!

Wow, motivating you has done the same to me.

my major is computer engineering. i'm gettin my ass kicked like you; first time i ever failed a class in my life; this past year makes it the second time. but i'd rather get punched in the gonads than get crushed by something stupid like collegiate education. what's worked for me is my hellbent desire to get out my parent's grasp and live on my own. it's something i've desired so badly, i know the only way i'm getting it is if i get through college first, and that means doing well.

so yeah, if you have a dream/goal in mind, try that. good luck man.
