How can I stop being so lame? (12)

I've spent about the last 6 years doing fuck all. I have no high school degree. I have a measly job that pays fuck all. I have no friends I go out with. Thats where the trouble starts.

I'm a fairly good looking guy and 21, and lots of the chicks like me. However, I don't want to do anything but fuck them because I have nothing to back me up. I have no sights for the future, I drink all day, I have no high school. Most of the girls I know are all in university studying to get good careers. The rate I'm going, I'm going to end up back in jail for something. I have nothing to show.

How can I get the motivation to finally get off my ass, finish my high school classes and get a real job?

Well,... what kind of job would you like to have?

Is it possible in US to get highschool degree just by passing some exams? It is very easy then because your school program is ridiculously dumb.

Well, I'm in Canada, but yes. We have a similar GED based thing here. I read the study book and I can safely say I could pass the test with my eyes closed. I'm not stupid or anything. My boss at work thought I was in University obtaining a PHd. I've just been too lazy to actually get off my ass and write the test.

motivation is a really tough issue.
but it's my personal belief that if you want something bad enough, you can achieve it.
dont ever let your past haunt you, what matters most is you acknowledge your faults but keep on walking. it's inevitable that we all fail sometimes in our lifetimes, it's inhuman not to.
don't let your embarrassments be your handicap.
if we constantly compare ourselves to more successful people, and paralyzed by our shortcomings, we'll never be able to achieve anything significant.

don't let the thoughts of others ridiculing you determine the end of your life. it might hurt to admit your past failures, but only through doing so will you be able to overcome yourself and achieve a greater tomorrow.
and since you already came up with the courage to admit your problems here, it wont be too much trouble to overcome the same problem irl!

keep on trucking, anon, don't give up!

that's subjective!
overrated perhaps, but very efficient when used tactfully!

Just fucking do it. Set goals: figure out what you need to do to get your GED (or whatever you crazy Canadians call it). Make a list of the steps you need to follow in order to get it, and cross off each step after you've completed it.

Get yourself into a community college... don't even think about trying for a major yet, just take one class in whatever subject you think might interest you. If you're as smart as you say you are, your brain will probably latch on to the first real class you take, and you'll find yourself a lot more motivated. (I know that's what happened to me: a year ago, I was going to a community college because I didn't know what else to do, and now I'm accepted into a very good four year school, all because I decided I actually liked learning.) Do some research into which professors are the best, and pick one everyone likes.

And in your free time, just get out of the house more. Take walks, go to cafes and watch people. Get into AA, if your drinking bothers you so much and you can't stop.

But mostly, just get up and do SOMETHING.

Visit a highly populated city sometime and visit the slums. See how welfare/low-income people and the homeless live. If you stay on the path you're on, eventually you'll wind up being one of them. That should be more than enough motivation for you to fix yourself up. You're still young so you ~can~ change things and improve your life, but you should do it now before things get any worse.

has the right idea, listen to Anon.

I live in the slums mate. I hear gunshots every week.

So far I've decided to get my GED. I even studied today.

Pretty much all high school courses everywhere are solely based on the exams in the final year. Of course to get to the final year you have to pass the previous year, where non-exam material makes up 50% or so at least for my school.

Being lame is being satisfied of want you have. You have a measly job, but it pays the bills and brings food to your plate. You have no high school degree but you can't seem to find a good reason to get one. You're a good looking guy, so looking for a girl is like walking into a candy store.

To fix this, be grateful in want you have, but never be satisfy. Motivation always comes from what someone wants and how bad they want it. Also, set yourself straight in the things you want. From the your post, it seem like what you want the most are girls and something to show off.

What I want you to do is to write down 10 things you want the most in life and change them into a need, something that you live to achieve. And then I want you to go out there and do something about it. Anything! Life is choices and you should exercise your power to make decisions in life. You will be amaze at how far you can get.

I know this sound like a lecture, but I am here to help.
