I am suffering from severe depression; if I were not a follower of Jesus Christ I would find an easy way out by taking my life. I know that it is a sin and do not want to go to the fiery pits of hell. Medication is not helping and feel lost in this situation, I Know that Prayer is the only answer. I have prayed for this to be lifted off me and have not improved. Please help me.

First of all, it's great you believe in a higher power and sometimes it can give you strength..but prayer vs Depressions is a losing battle. I suggest you seek professional help and go to the root of your problems (+medication although it will not fix your depression it's just a tool to get you on your feet).

If therapy does not work and you still feel depressed don't worry as millions of people in the world feel this way...maybe one day, it will fade away. All i can say is hold on, and fight what might be the biggest fight in your life..i would know, i'm still depressed and "holding on".

Prayer by itself is not enough. Most times, one must put effort into improving oneself.

I hope OP isn't a troll.
I've never found anyway to fight depression only make it go away temporarily. Medication never helped me. I guess humans were just made to be miserable ;_;

If the medication isn't helping or you are getting side effects go back to the doctor and tell them. medication isn't a magic solution some drugs work for some people and some don't, the point is finding a medication that does work for you, and this needs you to co-operate with your doctor.

Also, give the drugs some time to work most anti-depressants have no instantaneous effects and they require you to build the drug up in your system overtime before you will notice any effect, sometimes your symptoms may seem worsen a little before they improve.

Ensure you are following the instructions on the packet correctly, Do not miss doses, do not increase or decrease your dose without consulting your doctor.

In conjunction with medication you should be seeing a therapist and doing plenty of exercise and healthy eating

I don't think we're made to be miserable as much as we're making ourselves that way.

I am not a Christian but I am from a Christian school so I think praying will never work if you never make an effort towards it. Its like you want to score full marks in exam but don't study at all.

You are a Christian but do you go to church regularly? There should be people in your church that you can talk to face-to-face, like they are your friend. Tell them your problems and they will guide you along.

An illness must take its full course before it heals, medicine just ease the symptoms. For depression, not only must you take the medicine, your mindset must change too. Have a more positive outlook in life. Go out and feel the sun. Walk around the park or beach. You'll feel much better.
