I'm becoming an insomniac (18)

I've always stayed up to some time between 2-4AM. However, these past couple weeks I got sick and now I'm finding myself unable to fall asleep at my usual times. Even as I type this, it's 7AM and I don't feel tired at all. I will try to force myself to fall asleep within this next hour and wake up about 5 hours later. 6/7PM will roll around and I will get extremely tired. I'll pass out for an unpredictable amount of time (could be 1 hour, could be 4 hours). And then it all starts over from there.

you must insure that you strictly stick to regular patterns of sleep. Also, one hour before sleeping stop stimulating activities like watching a (computer) screen

These sound like good ideas, thank you. I actually feel pretty stupid for not thinking of them myself... perhaps my brain is suffering from the new cycle -.-

>>4 hehe..well, my brain refuses to look away from computer screen as well. And it always looks like way too much trouble to go to bed early in the evening and then wake up at normal times. Good luck :)

well i had an acquaintance that had insomnia...if you really want to fall asleep, during the day or evening go for a job or do some sports to get you tired. Basically, my acquaintance jogged 2 miles a night and was able to fall asleep

If you drink coffee, you could try quitting until your sleep cycle gets back to normal. Exercise helps too.

I had trouble falling asleep for some two or three years before I started watching anime in my bed before I went to sleep. Usually a few episoded of something that I wouldn't really care about if I fell asleep in the middle of.

Sports are stimulating. If you want to, do them a couple of hours before going to sleep,...

About five hundred jumping-jacks would do the trick.

Reading helped. I was asleep last night by 1AM, but woke up at 6AM. Then around noon today I became extremely tired and slept for over five hours. I keep waking up throughout my sleep at odd times - 3:33AM, 3:33PM, and 4:44PM were today's times. I'm not a numbers freak, but I found it strange that whenever I would wake up, the clock would be exactly on these even numbers.

If it is incredibly bad still, couldn't medicine help?

I would never use this method myself... but some like it.

Also, ever tried logic puzzles and stuff before bed?

Logic puzzles make me obsess over logic, thus setting my mind to a state of even more alertness than before.

I recommend watching anime before bed.

Hmm, well the problem with that is I'll get really into whatever series it is and want to keep watching episode after episode.

Oh yeah, I should keep updating with my sleep schedule. Last night I feel asleep, after reading a bunch of manga, at around 2AM... but then woke up at 5AM. It's currently 11:15AM and I'm going to try my hardest not to take any naps today. Hopefully I'll pass out around 9PM and get a real night's sleep and a decent cycle started.

hei the same with me.. last night was terrible. I woke up at odd times. as 21:21 and 3:33am and felt tired half of the day. I blame the moon! :P keep on trying, it needs more practicing, give it like 2 weeks or so :)
good luck!

Doing something mindless before bed is key. If you're spending the last hours of your day talking to people, thinking of stuff to type, playing complicated games, doing puzzles... your head will be spinning by the time you hit the pillow.

I got myself in the habit of forcing myself to watch TV before bed, but TV kinda sucks so I bought some Monty Python dvds and shit to watch. I'd just lie in my bed and watch an episode, let all my thoughts drain away.

Now whenever I watch Monty Python I get tired. But hey it works, even better than NyQuil.
