I need to think before I act... or say. (8)

sigh What can I say?
I always forget things. I'm a complete airhead.
I say things that I don't mean to, or sometimes I say things that offend people even though I don't mean to. I lose my possessions frequently. I forget to turn in my homework even though I do every single one.

I've been trying to fix myself; trying to think before I do/say. but my actions are faster than my brain... what should I do?

Is it part of the problem that you lose sight of things, like the whereabouts of your possessions or the homework you need to hand in? If it is, it might help to live by rules and routines (e.g. items are always stored in the same place, homework is always handed in just before/after class), or maybe make lists of things to do and the like. In other words, to get organized.

As for saying stupid things, I guess a good way to deal with that is what you said - thinking before you speak, even if it means talking less and taking longer to answer people.
Then again, I'm not sure if I should be advising people to become shy, so maybe that's a really bad idea. (I'm not very experienced at helping people with their personal problems.)

Alternatively, you could just clarify yourself afterwards. If you said something you didn't mean, maybe you should just tell them so. Apologize for offending people, take things back, correct yourself.

And I'll leave the rest to the Personal Issues gurus here who will undoubtedly know better how to handle your situation than me.

That seems rather irrelevant.

start w/ your hwk first...
have an agenda.. n write doen all the due dates... your memory can't be that bad because you remember to do every one of them!
then everyday, check if there is hwk you need to hand in!

as for saying the wrong things to people by accident.. it's okay, a lot of people do that at times! It's really hard to say what is the best strategy... this happens to me too. Once I met a group of sensitive people, and I realized the things I usually say to my friends (being straight foward and what not), can offend some people... so I made sure to think before I speak so I wouldn't offend others who can't take comments like that.

In the end, I got along better with them, however, they were really frustrated that I always took 3x as long to answer!!! So I guess knowing the right thing to say just takes time! It's like you're teaching your body to inhibit your actions! The group I was with certainly did not have to think as long to answer!

Know your group and act accordingly. If you do happen to say something offensive right after you said it.. make sure that you let he/she/them know that you did not mean what you said in a particular way (unless you said something like "oh you look like a homeless today!" -- if you did that.. then yah... stop talking ha ha!)
