Well I live in a small little beach town,
called Laguna Beach, its really boring there's
nobody here that is like me. I mean there are no
otakus, and the only pervs, are future sex offenders,
there is nobody who trolls forums and likes to sit at home
and occasionally hang out, I'm surrounded by surfers, sluts, and newbfags. I mean isn't there anyone near me that feels the same, or am I the only person in orange county that is here?

Well, it could be worse, you could live where I live, surrounded by rednecks who think a calculator is fancy. :P

Isn't there an art school there? The Laguna College of Art and Design?
I know of a lot of people who go there who are into anime and manga, surely you can meet some of them.

I feel you OP, I lived in a small town of about 4000 at one time... Didn't even have a beach, though. What happened to me? I became a complete social recluse, taught myself several programming languages, torrented a shit ton, and talked to my friends from my home city at all hours of the night.

Okay, forgive the rant, but I really must rant. I moved back to my home city, and I realized: Even with the millions of people here, I'm still completely alone. And then I realized that was okay. It's all about your attitude.

>surfers, sluts, and newbfags
>there is nobody who trolls forums and likes to sit at home

You have started out with a bad attitude. You are not going to find a clone of yourself, and over-generalization of others is not a good habit, especially in negative tones. Even if you do find someone very much like yourself, over time, you will both change and sooner or later, they will no longer be just like you. Instead, what you need to look for are people that have certain things in common with you, hopefully something that you can enjoy together.

As >>6 said, there are plenty of anime/manga fans there, and there are plenty in pretty much every town upwards of 10,000. So maybe they don't enjoy the same genres as you. So maybe they're quite different than you in several ways. What matters is that you share certain traits that both parties think are important. That, and time spent together, are the beginnings of a friendship.

I realize I may sound fairly harsh OP, and I'm not sure whether I mean to or not. I completely empathize with you. However, when I was in your position, rather than make the effort to be outgoing, get along with others, and all of that... I... shut myself in my room and compiled Linux and went days without eating and did all sorts of horrible stuff to myself, and it made me depressed as hell.

I can't really tell what type of person you are by your post, but I tend to believe that almost everybody is capable of being okay. You seem to be a cynical individual, probably a teenager since you're stuck somewhere you don't want to be and can't commute to places with more like-minded people, and your isolation has made you even worse.

I dunno. I'm ranting. Whatever. But to end this... I was depressed as hell when I was where I was, but now that I'm out, I'm doing pretty well. So maybe, instead of searching for something you're pretty sure is non-existent, you should spend the next few years/months/however long it is until you can leave reflecting, doing what you want, and try to keep the doors open so you can get out (IE, don't do poorly in school, regardless of how shitty it is... Also, in CA, you can get a diploma from the state at age 16 if you jump through a bunch of hoops... Though perhaps you're already an adult and stuck there for other reasons).

Okay. Disconnected rant over.
