Okay, the motivation might go into romance, but the problem itself fits here.

The thing is, a girl I like has told me to come over to a party. I really can't turn it down as she had told me that I need to socialise more. But I'm not really that much of a party-goer. What the hell should I do there? When I look at people "dance" in clubs, I want to vomit. I can go there and drink all the time, sure, but I don't think it's a good idea (but it's still my back-up plan, and I'm the guy to screw something up and have to resort to it). I'm not good at smalltalk either. It's in two days, please help me.

ask this girl to introduce you to people who might have similar interests as you.

I don't think that anyone there would share interests with someone who doesn't usually go to parties.

>>3 You are wrong. People have diversified interests, so you don't need to share all of your interests for some of them to intersect.

Besides, if you're there, maybe there are other people in your situation present. It's just plain old logic.

You think so? You think that I will find another programmer or a paper-model-builder at a party?
See, the thing is that I'm not into the popular smalltalk topics. I don't watch movies, don't know the news, and my life is kinda boring when seen from outside.

>>5 Sure. There are plenty of people who program (at least on the side), and computers are a popular topic of interest (I'm not saying that it's always a proper topic of discussion anytime).

As for paper-model-builder, why not, could intersect with mecha lovers/aircraft junkies/whatever.

Just quit your excuses and learn to present your interests in a attractive manner. Also, there are many people who are not into smalltalk topics, even if they don't do paper-modelling. Once again, ask your friend to help you find the good crowd for you.

Papercraft involves craft. It is a skill, a creative one nonetheless. Don't be ashamed of it, even if it seems kind of a "weird" hobby, you're probably doing stuff that other people wouldn't do. So, you have stuff to tell them.
