"the top two winning parties — which together won more than 70 percent of the vote and are expected to name Iraq's new prime minister and president — are Iran's closest allies in Iraq."

Good for them?

>>2 is DQN

This can be a good thing that the Democracy is actually doing what its suppose to do, rather than what the US Government want. However, this could mean that the US are going to lurk around Iraq just that little bit longer, unless this new government decides to act on that.

How am I DQN?

Not directly related to the news item, but...
There was an episode of Teen Titans that surprised me.
One of the protagonists said: "It's not because one can vote", or words to that effect. Meaning that I'll expand to: "It's not because one can vote that this country is a democracy, there is much more to it. The one who think that getting a country to vote makes it a democracy doesn't understand what is a democracy."
Teen Titans' version of the missing element was that compromises were needed, that there were various groups and they united despite their conflicts.
I think there is more to a democracy than that, but it's a start.

i'm not going to go for the obvious and act really condescending here, but i am going to say that in my opinion, you have a lot more cachet in the arena of political discussion than the writers of teen titans.

regardless, i agree pretty much up and down with citizen #3, excepting that i don't know what dqn means.

democracy is a wonderful thing, iraq's vote was democratic (though i know bubu would probably argue that it wasn't democratic enough), and when i supported the war i always hoped something like this would happen.

call me naive (and i'm sure you all will) but i refuse to believe that given the opportunity to vote, the people of iraq will then willingly cede total executive to any one man for an indefinite period. while i don't think a large portion of the insurgents are doing it out of patriotic reasons, i think there is a patriotic front which fights now and will fight again.

liberty, like that other great invention of the 19th century, the locomotive, has momentum. it takes a tremendous input of energy to get just a little bit of movement at first, but once its moving, you just can't stand in its way.

>i don't know what dqn means.

DQN means degraded/degrading, it's Japanese internet slang.
A comment which is degrading others would be a DQN comment.
A group working against the best interests of society would be a DQN group.
A close approximate for "DQN" in English could be "troll".
