About four in five Americans want the Senate to thoroughly examine the president's nominees to be federal judges _ an attitude shared by a majority of Democrats, Republicans and independents questioned in a new poll.

The rest say those nominees should get the benefit of the doubt and get approved by the Senate without much scrutiny, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll released Friday.

This is good news. This is quite an advanced issue (for a poll anyway), and you generally can get 1/5 of respondents to answer all kinds of weird and scary shit.

I'm quite worried about the development of the US political system, so any news like this is welcome.

Well, I think eventually Dems are gonna be de-filibustered. Republicans are apoccalyptic that all GWB's judges haven't been approved yet. The thing is, that I was under the impression that something like 90% of GWB's judges are already approved, or at least voted on.

Although I saw a biography of Karl Rove on PBS, and at least according to that, it seems Sr. Rove has a history going back to his texas days when young Padawan Bush was first running for office. He got everybody royally pissed about "judicial curruption" and used that anger to win elections. Actually, from what I saw in the bio, his whole campaign strategy seems to be

1.) Get people angry about an issue
2.) Blame "liberals" for the problem
3.) the people vote republican.

So maybe this is an exaggerated issue.
