So what are you arbitrarily defining "true conservativism" as? The traditional, protectionist industrialists of the Whigs? The bitterly anti-Civil War Copperheads? The corporatists of the early 20th century? The isolationist anti-intervention coalition of the New Deal/WW2 era? The free market constitutionalists of the later 20th? The interventionist corporatists anti-Communists of the Cold War? It's meant a lot of things in the past and it means something different now. Deal with it, stop trying to rail against popular definitions to reclaim some meaingless pedigree.
