Hello, 4-ch.So, long story short. There's an UFO appearing in my neighbourhood almost every night.

Here's my twitter, you can read all the rest there. I will add more posts to twitter as soon as something interesting happens.

UFO is an abbreviation for an Unidentified Flying Object. So if you see something in the air and you have no clue what it is, you have full rights to call it UFO. You don't, however, have rights to reject any reasonable explanation and insist it's an alien spaceship. Even if it was one, it wouldn't qualify as UFO anyway.

While it is true that most UFO sightings are probably bullshit, it is premature to scoff and say IT NEVER HAPPENED. The universe is a massive place, discounting things like this just because of all the crap that surrounds it is really not doing the whole thing justice

Just because something can’t be proven doesn’t mean it’s true. Follow the evidence and you’ll find that everything related to UFOs is a misidentification, a hoax, or a fantasy. This has been the case in every instance. Why should we bother continuing to study something that clearly isn’t there?

For example: I posit that “in a few rare instances”, children with birth defects are in fact changelings. Genetic tests of these children will reveal that they’re not the spawn of trolls, but of human parents every time. We could either discount the changeling hypothesis after testing a reasonable sample or we could take the UFO nut route of logic: today’s trolls you see are party to advanced genetic manipulation technology and can replace children in utero! We’ll never know with 100% certainty unless we tested every afflicted child but that doesn’t mean that “in a few rare instances” deformed children are the work of trolls...

You fail to see that I agree with the idea of following evidence completely-

But what is important is that this isn't a situation where you can ever disprove the possibility of contact, and to suddenly discontinue the future of study based on poor past results is an over-reaction based on the biased assumption that we can ever possess enough data to definitively answer the question. As a species, we are not in the absolute intellectual position of knowing everything that ever was and ever will be, in fact I would personally go so far as to say that such a situation is impossible due to the inability to definitively establish anything. Reactionary posturing like what you are suggesting is nothing more than short-sighted overconfidence fostered through the ethnocentric tendencies of some scientists to believe that their observations are absolute.

Is there a possibility of intelligent life elsewhere? Yes. In fact given the size of the universe, it's likely. What are the odds they're nearby, though? I'd say slim seeing as how we've heard no sign of them so far. Given the wildest telescope/whatever of our imagining, how far away could they be and detect us and when? The odds are heavily stacked against ET ever finding us or us finding them.

Given that, I'm going to say that listening to the heavens for their signal is a waste of time. It's still better time spent than fools putting their camcorders to the sky to produce grainy youtube videos of identified flying objects and then claiming these are proof that the Queen of England is a lizard or whatever...

Any race with the technology to travel the vast distances between stars would also most likely have some means of faster than light communication that we would be too primitive to pick up.
