I suggest just getting the highest Athlon 64, then a NForce4 SLI board (Like the ASUS A8N-SLI), and dual 6800 Ultra PCI-E.

AMD64 > All.

But make sure you run Linux or something on that machine. I don't know if Windows supports that kind of hardware.

Tyan Thunder line is a MONSTER. It will destroy that shitty Abit motherboard. PCI-X is as good as PCI-express for most purposes.
Make sure and use SCSI if you're going to spend that kind of money on a mobo.
Also, dual opterons >> single P4, always.
