Best free antivirus software? (7)

Recommendations please? or should i just stick some cracked software in my machine?

Norton and McAfee have gone down the drain, avoid.

I use the free version of AntiVir, 'seems to work fine.

Is AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1) any good?

Looking at this slashdot article here, http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/22/1310211, AVG seems okay. One comment here: "AntiVir wins, with AVG a close second" seems to summarize the general opinion, I believe.

i've had AVG recommended to me often as well

I run AVG antivirus along with zonealarm firewall personal and windows defender anti spyware all free and very good at what they do.
