Ok, so this is kinda strange...I downloaded this program to restore some files that I accidentally erased the other day. Not only did the program restore the files that I had deleted, but it also restored a bunch of pictures from what seemed to be every single website that I have gone to in the last couple of months. Where the heck did these pictures come from? And more importantly...how do I get rid of them? Like everyone here, I've gone to a few NSFW websites (like a few sections on this website) and the last thing I want is some computer tech seeing every picture from every website I've ever been to. So if theres anyone on here who could give me some advice on this, that would be great!

It's just your internet browser cache.

I gather what you're asking is that if you delete the images, the admin can undelete them, and how do you stop that... the best option is probably to store the browser cache somewhere other than the hard disk. For instance, on a USB stick. Or in an encrypted volume (TrueCrypt, etc.) Or even in an encrypted volume on a USB stick.

OP here...I'm not sure if it is the browser cache. I use Firefox, and I have it set to delete all of my "private data," when I exit the browser (which I assume the cache is part of)and also use Ccleaner after each season (set to DoD standards)(yeah, I know...I'm paranoid.) But if it is my browser cache (and for give me for sounding like a soccer mom here...)where is it originally stored on my hard disk? And...how would I store the cache on a USB stick?

Note: I don't use FF.

If you look up "portable application" on Wikipedia, I'm sure you can find some starting points to look into how to install FF on a USB stick -- I believe this will also put the cache there.

I've used Opera in that way (but on a network share instead of on USB memory), and it works pretty well.

Of course, your cache size is going to be limited by the size of the memory you choose to install it on, so you might have to tweak the settings a bit. (It shouldn't be that hard.) And if you're doing that, you might as well disable the disk cache altogether, and skip the part where you carry around the browser in your pocket. (There's likely still a memory cache, so it will still be usable.)

Well, the thing is it was deleted, but you ran a program to undelete files, and when you do that, all that old cache would come straight back.

The default location is inside app data in the user home directory. To move it to a USB stick, the easiest way is like >>4 suggested, install Portable Firefox. There are a number of other applications for which portable versions exist though, and it's worth having a look to see which ones make sense.

Also in terms of erasing your tracks to get rid of the images which you don't want to be found by this method of undeletion, there is a great program called Eraser which can be used to secure-erase individual files as well as secure erasing the unused parts of your hard disk which will prevent any previously-deleted files from being recovered. I use it from time to time on my work machine when something dodgy has found its way onto it.

OP here...I'm sorry, where exactly is the "app data in the user home directory?" Geez, and can you believe I'm studying for my A+ exams??
