I doubt I'll be lucky here, but I was wondering if there were any alternatives to Mona that can still display AA properly but are serif or maybe cleartype compatible?
I've been trying to get my pc displaying cleartype Japanese fonts on XP, but it isn't easy. I managed to find Meiryo, and as a sans serif font it looks great, but doesn't do AA.
Well, since Mona is designed to be "compatible" with an MS font...
Wikipedia:
Mona Font is a Japanese proportional font for the X Window System, derived from the Shinonome raster font family. It aims to represent Shift_JIS art graphics properly, almost all of which require the MS PGothic font.
-> MS PGothic
You're welcome. I wasn't sure it would help, since I haven't sorted out AA properly myself, and don't even run Windows, but I guess you get lucky sometimes...
I was unable to install Mona font with MacOS X Tiger.
FontBook says it fails two of the validation checks.
If I install it anyway, then it doesn't really work that well. The AA doesn't line up any better, and when I type in stuff into a text box, and backspace over it, the letters don't erase all the way.
Tried it in both Camino and Safari. And I do seem to have MS Gothic and MS PGothic lined up, but the AA still doesn't seem to line up quite as good as it does on the PC.
What's my move? And is there a test pattern I can use so I know whether it's my imagination or it's really installed wrong?
I'm pretty sure I saw an AA test pattern somewhere, could somebody post that?
I can never get it right, even using the exact same TTF file which people claim to use, at the exact same size. :-/
