No BIOS screen! (13)

I was wondering if someone could help me out here...

About a month ago, I had to force my computer to shut down, because it wasn't doing so on its own. Right after that, every time I restart, or turn my computer on, the BIOS screen doesn't come up. Neither does the start screen (or whatever that screen is called with the XP logo, and the scrolling thing at the bottom.)

So does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is it the BIOS battery? Anyway, any help would be great!

OP here. My apologies in advance! I should also add that in place of the BIOS and the XP screen, is darkness. Actually, my monitor at first goes from stand by mode, to on, and then thats when I see the dark screen.

On the plus side, my computer boots up faster now!

Did you smell something burning when this happened?

No. Aside from the black screen, everything else with my computer is fine.

What were you doing when you had to force a shut-down?

this problem has come up for a few guys i know when things have gone wrong with their video cards - especially using a digital output and / or with driver problems.

I don't remember what I was doing. I think my computer froze up, and I wanted to restart. I was thinking it might have something to do with my video card. My screen looked exactly the same (dark) when I started up Diablo 2 the other day; but it went from the black screen to the game relatively quick. (compared to how it is when my computer boots up.)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeell, are you using a digital output?

If you are, try loading up your PC using the ana. out.

I'm using VGA if that means anything...I'm not sure if thats digital or not. I'm using an AGP NVIDIA GeForce 5500 graphics card if that helps...

Woah...have you tried updating the drivers anytime recently?

No, but I will now!

Well...I just got done updating the drivers, and now (aside from the BIOS screen still not showing up) when I try and watch a video the color is off. Fixing to initiate System Restore

Well, after much trail and error (more error than trail...) I finally got the BIOS screen back. It's odd though, because the bios screen is on my secondary monitor (which my computer has deemed monitor #1.) I'm not sure if it was there the whole time, or its because I took out (and put back in of course) the bios battery. Anyway, its back, and hopefully won't be going anywhere anytime soon! Thanks to all who took the time to help with this matter! I appreciate it very much!
