is there any old (by which i mean either superseded by a newer version or officially discontinued) software that you still use out of choice? not because you can't afford/your computer can't run anything newer, but genuinely because you want to use it. and if so, what, and why?

(games don't count)

XMMS. Because it fits my needs almost perfectly and Linux distributions (Gentoo, Debian) seem to abandon it.

Yes, I know there is Audacious. But their devs say they don't want audacious to be an XMMS-replacement. It's missing some (for me) important options. It does not save some settings. Crashing all the time when adding a song to a playlist doesn't help either.

As badly maintained as XMMS may be, for me it's the best media player out there. It's configurable and it just fucking works.

I still use the Amiga mail client under an emulator because I'm yet to find one anywhere near as good.

PSP 7, but I have no idea why.
Also a bunch of free/ad/shitware where the earlier versions were less bloaty or naggy.
