I really don't understand why you would remake a film that's only 6 years old.
Because pure-blooded Americans can't watch those slanty-eyed gook films.

( ・∧・)..unfortunate but true
Its the same asshat who ruined Dark Water, Jyu-on, and Ringu. Apparantly he wants the film to be about kids in "Juvie", which totally RUINS THE CONCEPT OF THE MOVIE!

>>5 he wants the film to be about kids in "Juvie"
Did you even read it? He said he DIDN'T want to do that.
That implies he actually comprehends the whole school-system-commentary thing going on in the movie, and I'm hoping that means it won't be too bad. With any luck he'll dare to mix in the bullying issues that lead to things like Columbine, and actually make a thoughtful movie, rather than just a gorefest.
Why do they remake a film and not even say the film they were based on for example the Ring was based on the Japanese film Ringu. Which causes no Americans to appreciate Asian Movies :-(
(~.~) What's Next A Disney Remake of Battle Royale?
USA is also Remaking Densha Otoko the movie:-(
What? Don't say such things without evidence. There is no Densha Otoko remake that I can find. The Japanese movie is being released in the USA. That is all.
mmm i wonder how it will go. culturally aren't japanese and american school systen very different?
from what i understand, in japanese schools your teacher has a very big role in the students life. rather than american school which once the bell rings...the teacher is not resposible for looking after their students.
also in the west class trips are for certain selected students from different classes of the same grade who can afford to go on it. so its not really a "class trip" like with a japanese school's class trip.
i can see similarites. i mean i think american youth is no different than japanese youth, not caring so much about the old customs, but that shit has been loooong gone for america kids. not respecting their elders...fucking up, not caring about their future. so the similarites are there. and it could be a good western film. unlike ringu and dark water that have ties to japanese ghost/folk tales that amercans might not get.
but something about making an american version of battle royale seems weird. i mean leave well enough alone.
i guess its the fact that people might be lazy and not want to read subtitles.
I dunno, this MIGHT turn out to be good, you never know until you leave the theater if a movie is good or bad.
I too feel it is un-neccesary to remake a brilliant six year old movie, but I'm not too surprised...
I just feel the purists will hate it...
This makes me want to kill myself. (´・ω・`)
Fuck remakes. Remakes suck. I got a better idea. How about Hollywood comes up with their own ideas, stops making shitty formulaic films and maybe they will become as exciting as Asian cinema is nowadays.
Remakes of foreign films are never as good as the original. It isn't like these Asian classics aren't easily available. Why does Hollywood feel the need to Americanise it for an American audience? Why can't they just watch the fucking original?
Battle Royal Remake??? how original besides the origal battle royal was banned in the U.S maybe because of the school shooting.. and now a remake American rip-off movies always sucks bigtime.. thats for sure..
Hehe. Yeah, I guess. The USA loves to dub films. Australia doesn't dub films. Ever. And most people won't even watch dubbed anime.
yep.. and im of them i just dont like dubbed movies, and tv-series, specially in anime..
Dubbed shows are for people who can't read!
After reading the novel, I didn't like the movie so much. They're not much alike, I think, as the novel is a lot more heavy on the psychological problems of the participants, which is logical, as it is a book, full of thoughts, which a movie can't do. I don't think an Americanized remake can do better, though, and hate the thought of this.

It's true that the book is way different from the movie, but I like them both equally.
Though I get the feeling I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if I knew Japanese and had read it in the original language. The translator used the word "approximately" like 30 times. That isn't even an exaggeration.
usa is remaking every movie there is to be seen and claiming it to be theirs. lozl
why even remake a movie that is good as it is? anyone seen BR 2?
not as good maybe but still ok to watch
Regardless of what anyone says I am still going to give the remake a chance. Sure I may rip my eyes out of there sockets, but at I least I saw it and have a reason to complain.
Apparently the masterpiece that is Oldboy, is being remade in the US, but this could just be rumours from places like imdb.
Does anyone know anything about this? or is it just smoke and mirrors?
