This is another film US will remake and release in the USA. Remaking a film makes the film loose its originality ;also less people will actually give credit to the Japanese for making good movies.
If you can please post your thoughts on "remakes". Thank You!!
I highly doubt they'd ever remake Densha Otoko for the west. Most Westerners couldn't identify with the story and be annoyed at how weak he is. It wouldn't appeal to the mainstream movie audience at all (little kids, teenagers, 20-30 somethings).
I'm sure the protagonist will be remade as a hideously ugly linebacker or something like that. Beauty and the beast all over again.
lol. Viz will make the release in September.
Source? It's too horrible to be true.
Viz is releasing a translation of the original movie.
It won't make sense as a US remake unless they change it quite a bit and make the protagonist like a Trekkie or something, then Americans will be able to understand it better.
Even trekkies can find love these days, what with the internet and conventions and all.
is there a dvd tha ti could buy?
There is no way the US remake would be any good.
Hey I'd definately watch the western one. d^_~b
But I bet the original one iz still gonna b better. Wish I had a fairtale story like Densha's
Link to Densha American remake? I refuse to believe they'd do it...
Potentially remake got confused with a sub or dub (?). It was released in the US on Friday:

yeah, there is no remake.
Wow, they pulled off a cheap stunt.
NBC has a new drama called Heroes.

Look at Hiro's character.
Is this better than Trekkie reincarnation?

i dunno if you're talking about the blog but yeah, lawl, he's an otaku. at least the character has good taste.
What is Densho?
Densho means "to send messages" as in Denshobato "carrier pigeon".
They are going to ruin the story for sure. :( Since when are otaku's looked down upon in America?
Actually, it looks like a sub release. XD
it would suck if they do a remake, they should just leave that alone
It would be a boring movies just like other 3 japnese movie: ju on, the ring and ( i forgot dat name of movie hehe...)
Its sort of like off topic but...Hollywood will do a remake of "Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu". Will be starring Jennifer Garner, so says Wikipedia. Hope it turns out good (0.000001%).
I doubt they'll do a remake of Densha Otoko in the US. But actually I'm an aspiring movie director, Densha Otoko is a movie that I want to give an American version, go ahead and roll your eyes at me but I don't think I would do a crappy job on it, because I'll remain true to the story of Densha, just change a few things. There are many Otaku in America like Densha, so I would make the story revolve around an American Otaku similiar to Densha, meet the girl Hermes on a subway instead of a train, and have all the 2-ch scenes on 4-ch. Basically I don't think if I do create an American version of Densha Otoko I wont do a botched up job on other American version of Asian films like The Ring, The Departed (US version of Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs), and so on, mainly because unlike most directors that do American remakes, I actually know the story well and a fan of it.
>>13 Ya, it says sept 06, NYC. I went with the anime club at my school to the city to watch it in a theater w/subs at the start of this school year (sept.) I'm guessing that's what imdb means.
I hope its good.
I write a film blog in Texas about our international Sister Cities and have posted some info on the DVD release of Densha Otoko and Shinobi.
Anyone who's got personal insight on these films is welcome to come to the site and let us know what you think.
Thanks.

>>27 wait, in the blog, it makes it seem like otoko and otaku mean the same thing. I'm pretty sure otoko is a general term for man, as in Train Man.
Anyway, is the dvd coming out here in america, as in I don't have to import it?
Personally, I prefer the Densha Otoko TV series to the movie, anyway. The movie was probably more accurate an adaptation (I haven't gotten around to reading the actual thread), but it was fairly dull. The TV series may have been over the top, but it at least remained interesting all the way through.
... Well, up until the "Deluxe" special, anyway. >_>

another ending wasn't as good as the series either
It was issued in the US on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
I don't speak Japanese, so I've got a question about Otoko vs. Otaku. Densha Otoko web site uses Otaku as though it means the same things as Otoko. If I'm wrong, help me correct it.
The movie version was anyway. I don't know about the TV series. I haven't researched it.
otoko = man、boy、male ( onna = woman、girl、female )
otaku = queer person
Densya Otako = queer man = otaku otoko
Otoko is a man. Otaku is a nerd, like a computer nerd, a video-game fanatic, or a Trekkie. In the story, the guy nicknamed Densha Otoko (train man) is an otaku, obsessed with anime characters and video games.

If they stick to the main plot, but change some things to make it relate to the american audience, I think it could be good.
I would love to see an american adaption.
There was nothing botched about The Departed. The Departed was better than Infernal Affairs. Deeper and more realised. Plus the female characters were written so much better. And I am a crazy asian cinema fan, so they obviously did a great job on The Departed or I wouldn't have said that.
hmm....if there was a US version of densha otoko, what would it be called? Train Nerd? (starring Tom Cruise) XDD
They'd probably change the title like they did with The Departed.
Has their ever been a remake that wasn't inferior to the original?
Il Mare was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. But Lakehouse was disappointing especially when it consisted my favourite lead couple. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a superior remake.
