It's the best bait-and-switch horror film since Psycho.
Shiina Eihi is amazing as Asami, and I feel some compassion and sympathy for the character. She has a vulnerable and emotional side to her that perhaps strikes a chord with me. She simply wants to be loved and taken care of. You can see why.
With Audition, you can actually interpret the events and follow the logic of a nightmare.
At the end, I felt like I had woken up from a bad dream.

(Might contain spoilers? I don't really know.)
Eh. Came off as bullshit to me. It was hailed as this huge artistic masterpiece, and it totally let me down. First 20 minutes or so, before crazy shit starts happening, was pretty funny. If the whole movie had been that I'd probably have liked it. I found the whole movie afterwords just tedious, repetitive, sort of predictable and just pointless. The torture scene was unnecessary. We get it, you're an edgy director, but the whole thing just felt added for shock value. Plus it was like fifteen minutes long. The part with the dude in the bag licking from the dog bowl was sort of cool, but the rest was just, [something sort of creepy happens] scene change [something else sort of creepy happens] scene change [something innocent starts to happen but then OH SHIT IT CHANGED TO SOMETHING SORT OF CREEPY] scene change [15 minute torture scene].
I mean, I guess I can respect whatever it was trying to do, but I just didn't enjoy it. At all.
